A few updates today, nothing all that earth shattering.
First...what to do with those pesky C-Ranger folks...
When they were a part of C-Dory, the decision was easy - let them in. However, with whatever arrangement was in place with C-Dory now apparently on the way out, we had a bit of a dilemma.
The short of it - they can stay. It's too tough to kick them out now. Kinda like immigration - they were born here, so they're legitimate C-Brats.
We've created a new forum for C-Ranger discussion - All C-Rangers, All The Time. If it's specific to any past, current or future C-Ranger models, try and chat about it there. If it's a more generic technical discussion, try and keep it in the tech forums already set up.
We also set up a top level photo album for C-Brats with C-Rangers, to keep them distinct from the C-Dory owner albums. TyBoo has a couple album requests in the queue for C-Ranger owners that will be placed there.
Also, another new forum - The Nerd Shack.
As suggested by Larry H. in the recent OS Wars thread, we need a place for nerds and hope-to-be nerds to hang out. There's enough interest in such things to warrant a separate forum, and much of the discussion is directly related to boating and/or use of the site, so it seems reasonable to give such issues their own home.
Anything computer related should go here, including but not limited to:
- Operating System Questions/Feedback (Linux, as well as those other two)
- Site usage tips/tricks
- Browser tips/tricks
- Application advice/tips/tricks, specifically as it's related to boating, i.e. Garmin and Raymarine software.
- Photo how-to's, i.e. image manipulation, working with the albums, etc.
Have fun! _________________ Will, C-Brat Nerd |

Nicely done--and I think that the Nerd shack is an excellent idea--especially for us old folks who can be dangerous on a computer! _________________ Bob Austin

The boating industry in general could learn a lot about customer satisfaction from you, Bill. Thank you for all you do to make this a great place that just keeps getting better.
Best wishes,

This is all good stuff. The Nerd Shack is cool, hopefully it will be limited to simple C-Brat language so maybe I can understand it. Maybe after retirement I will have time to learn "C-Nerd for dummies." |

Well.... I kinda liked everything in one blob... but things area changing all around me... so... as long as I can find my friends, do a search and find it, or just ask a nurd or is that nerd???.... I will be fine.
I liked the simple rule about .....The only rule is to be nice. Who knows... the way some things have been going of late...even of those of us multi-C-Dory owners may hit spots in life when we have no C-Dory.. But... I guess they could toss those folks into a has been box.
Time for me to watch that racing horse movie about a sea biscuit or something. _________________ Patrick Byrd "Byrdman"

Patrick,
Like it or not, this pub has to expand to fit in all the folks lined up at the door.
It's OK, we can have different rooms (or corners) for different sub-groups.
If you want to talk C-Rangers, we got that!
If it's jokes, we got that!
Now we got a place for the nerds to talk and maybe we can learn something here.
Now, the real question is....Did you bring some of that 'pulled pork'???
And what does *Aloysius* mean, and how do you say it? |

We are planning to spend 1 1/2 weeks on Lake Chelan. Any tips on the best place to launch, dock and moore our boat? Will spend 4-5 days or more on the north end near Stehekin, but the remainder of the time will be at or near the town of Chelan. Will also want to park the truck & trailer while we are boating. Suggestions, ideas and opinions will be appreciated and I know my extended C Brat family always has plently of ideas. Thanks. Ken |

Automatic transmission cooler. I tow a 25' C Dory cruiser with a 1/2 ton GMC pick up which has a 5.3 liter engine & have not experienced any problems towing my boat where ever we go such as mountain passes, etc.. I have 50,000 miles on the truck. I do have an aluminum trailer which is approx. 800 lbs. lighter than steel. Requesting opinions, suggestions about adding an after market transmission cooler?? My truck has a factory installed "tow" package. Thanks, Ken aka: wood duck. |

Ken, Check with the tranny man at your local GMC dealer and ask him if your trans has a torque converter that "locks up" at cruise speed. If it does, the trans doesn't generate nearly as much heat and a cooler isn't necessary. The Ford E4OD used in the 90s was an example of that type of trans.
