Both the 120 v outlets on my Tomcat 255 are dead.

The "outlets" breaker light is green as always. The fridge and the battery charger have A/C power.

The boat is kept in the water and is hooked up to shore power.

Where do I start troubleshooting?

GFCI is the first place to look (assuming that the breakers for the outlets are on)--it may be a good idea to put a cover over the breakers, since it is easy to have a foot trip the breakers.

All of the outlets are on one GFCI circuit--just reset it--it should be in the galley outlet, in back of the throttle.

If that doesn't do it, then start checking with a volt meter. The breakers are all on a bus, and they should not become disconnected from the bus. The other option is a bad breaker. This can happen.

We also put a second 110 V outlet circuit in both boats--on the aft cabinet for a microwave or convection oven. On the CD 25 we split the socket--half for an inverter. On the TC we wired an inverter (both 1500 watts) into the output from the extra breaker and it has an auto transfer switch.

The second 110 Volt switch we added is for a second battery charger for the inverter/house bank--30 to 40 amps.

The GFIs have a "test"button to simulate a ground fault . If it gets pushed , it will interrupt the circuit and everything down the line [ downstream] from it goes out until its reset or replaced if faulty [no pun intended] . Thats the most commom problem .

Bob, Marc:

I had checked the GFCI last night and it appeared to be OK. However, after the both of you said to check it, I went and pressed the reset again....nothing. Pressed the "test" button- nothing. Took a ballpoint pen and jabbed the reset hard- everything came on!

So- the GFCI is reset, but is obviously defective. I have tasked Charlie (the engineering side of the duo) to change it! Very Happy

Thanks!

Don't be too quick to replace it. A GFCI that can be turned off accidentally is a royal pain in the keister.
