I want to thank everyone who responded to my request for advice on the motor/kicker selection for a new 22' Cruiser. Your responses were very helpful and confirmed what I was beginning to suspect- that for cruising the Columbia River, it would be better to go with a 90 HP main motor and 8-10 HP kicker.
I am going to be mooring my boat on the Columbia River, and I wanted to take this opportunity to ask ChuckPacific (who also appears to be a fellow Lake Oswego resident), what his experiences have been mooring his boat in our area.
Chuck,
Do you keep your boat in the moorage year round, and if so, how did your C-Dory fare last winter when things got unusually cold and icy?
Is your slip covered or uncovered, and if uncovered, have you used canvas covers for the cockpit or the whole boat? Do you think the C-Dory cabin is sufficiently weathertight to withstand our Northwest winters uncovered without the risk of leaking or premature deterioration?
What about experiences with bottom paint on C-Dory's? How often does it usually need to be applied and are there places you can recommend which will apply it professionally for a reasonable price?
I have specifically asked Chuck for advice because he keeps a boat in moorage in the Portland area. Of course, any input from other members on these topics would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
