We often cruise Lake Powell in September...a great time on the lake...crowds are gone...water is still warm...the weather has cooled. So I'm going to throw some dates out there...say Sept 20-30. The Jenny B has expressed interest...any other takers? I'll be happy to act as tour guide...we'll see all the old favorites...and explore a few new ones too. _________________ Chris

We have some friends who will be cruising Powell at this time--and they usually have two of the C Dory gang with them. We are hoping that I get the OK to pull the C D 25 to the West Coast in this time frame, and spend a week on Powell about then. _________________ Bob Austin

Chris, would love to go but used up all my vacation between the Delta in May, Alaska in July and upcoming Catalina in August. Work keeps getting in the way...drat. _________________ Steve & Carmen

I think the Shad Rally is at bullfrog at about that time. I'll Be down there for the rally they have a nice striper dinner on Saturday night. I'm not real sure on the dates just yet. We have been getting 50 to 100 people to show up for it. No limit on stripers down there makes for a big fish fry. _________________ Jody Kidd

Are there some fixed dates for this cruise yet? Powell in late September, weather permitting of course, is one of the most exciting and interesting cruises possible. Wanted to pull this idea back to the top and get folks focusing on the possibility of joining Chris on an incredibly beautiful cruise in America's Canyonlands. _________________ El and Bill (former live-aboards)

Toni and I don't have a fixed schedule to get to Lake Powel and we planned on going before this thread was initated, but our tentative plans are to put in the water on 9/15, then we have no fixed plans on the lake except to spend a few days with friends and then cover as much water as possible in the next 7-12 days. Any time we can share with fellow C-Dory owners and those more familiar with the lake will be a bonus. _________________ RUSS & TONI |

Well I'll firm up my dates...I'll be launching Thursday September 20 in Wahweap. Will be headed uplake either that day or the next. We can plan on a general rendezvous at another time/place for those launching at one of the other ramps. This is really a great time to be on the lake. For those that like to fish...the stripers should provide some fun. On our cruise in May...Brent, Dixie and Joan kept us in fish...we had all you could eat fish frys more than once. |

Chris,
I have a once in a lifetime trophy Elk hunt (Monroe Mountain) that starts on the 15th. As soon as I can finish up that hunt we may still get down to Lake Powell. Scouted Elk this morning saw 22 Bulls that were all 6X6 point or better. Some that will score 380 or higher. Love Powell but I have been putting in for this hunt for 14 years.

We have been out of town for a while and just caught up with posts. If a schedule is posted of possible meeting places in the second half of September we will make efforts to find them. |

Well...why don't we plan on meeting in Oak Canyon on Sunday the 23rd? That should give Dixie plenty of time to pack Brent's elk out and get it cut and wrapped and in the freezer before they come down to Powell. Now I just need to come up with some sort of major bribe to get Brent to bring a backstrap for a BBQ!
Seriously...I think Oak would be a good place to gather on Sunday since it looks like we are going to have some variety in launch dates. That way if we don't hook up at the launch we'll be sure to all get together come Sunday.
For those unfamiliar with the lake...Oak Canyon is to starboard ascending at mile marker 51. There is a floating head/pump out in the finger to starboard as you enter Oak Canyon...we'll be behind the head. It's a great anchorage with lot's of room and nice beaches.
Looking at the lake levels...it looks like the level is going to be right around 3600 feet for our cruise...which is the level we had for our cruise in May.
Sound like a plan? |

Our favorite anchorage is beyond the area where the floating pump out is--actually where Oak Canyon comes into the lake--by where the map says Navajo Steps. Lots of Stripers up there in the brush. Of course as the lake varies, the topography around all of the areas change, and I assume that you are going directly behind the "hill" which is in back of (South) the pump out barge?
Our time of arriveal depends on how long our trip takes plus if there are any hurricanes when we are ready to leave.... |

Toni and I should have no problem finding Oak Canyon on that date.
Now, most of our fishing is done in the Pacific ocean outside the Columbia River....so, what tackle, lures, bait, etc. do we need to catch to a few fish while we are at Lake Powell ?? |

You can see what is working right now by looking at this web site.
www.wayneswords.com There is a lot of info on that site for the entire lake. |
