Check this out....for those who hate cleaning the heads and/or porta pots. I had the "opportunity" to sea trial one of these systems on our last Cumberland River Cruise....on about day 3...and man...was it great. Mr. Green

Well...great for me anyway....

I have told Bill and El about these what I called "Thunder Bags" and promised to get back with him... Well...here is the site.

They also have a neat little shower/privacy stall that looks to be in favor of a small area or boat cockpit...

Just another alternative to hopping you make it to the next marina in time...which is not always on our side... Moon

These are great things. Made in the USA - Montana actually. A good concept which actually works very well.

I have considered a PETT Toilet if we buy a 22 (the Wife is holding out for a 25 - we [wee] all can imagine why).

This WagBag concept is very simple, practical, and workable, though it's not as elegant as a full blown flush toilet, which, I'm sure, most women would prefer.

It's the KISS Principle as applied to toilet issues on a boat, and can't be made any less complicated. Because it's simple, it can't go haywire like a flush toilet, and it's even easier to deal with afterward than a PortaPotti. (Experts agree: there's nothing worst than dealing with a plugged toilet system on a boat.)

If you can deal with it's direct technique and disposal methods, it will be a step toward simplifying your boating experience.

While the manufacturer may tout it as a new idea, it's been around for a long time in many similar forms. They call this covergent evoloution in biology!

OK, one more time, let me say, the Airhead by EOS (Geoff Trott - could there be a more perfect name for a guy selling marine heads?) is really unbeatable, and David, back me up on this, re the stench factor, the Airhead beats the standard marine head hands down!

I started using the WagBags while kayaking and carried that to the C-Dory when I got it.

There are a couple of things I have learned. If you buy the packaged WagBags they seem to work very well. The double bag system does seem to keep the odor to a minimum. The only problem is the cost of using a bag for every poop per person. They are not cheap. Shocked

When I got the C-Dory I bought the large container of Poo-Powder. This is the stuff that comes in the pre-packaged WagBags. I figured I could use plastic garbage bags with a portable potty (basically a seat on a 5gal bucket). After use the bags would be twisted closed and tied and put in a secondary container until we could dispose of them. This is what we did for or first few C-Dory trips.

The problem was that the Poo-Powder does eliminate the crap smell but there is still a very unpleasant odor after a short time. After a couple of days it was not fun to open the secondary container to put in another
bag. Disgust

Odor proof bags would again get expensive. Angry

When I went to Lake Powell I decided to use the porta-potty since there are floating stations for dumping and trash disposal is scarce. I have decided that the porta-potty is simple, less offensive, and cost effective.

We have not had any bad smells. The only down side the emptying process. I usually try to empty at a dump station. There is very little odor and it is easy to do. I don't like to dump in a toilet since it seems to splash but it can be done. Dumping the porta-potty is less offensive than opening the secondary container of Poo-Powder bags!

So I carry the pre-packaged WagBags for emergencies when I am kayaking, fishing, or out somewhere. For on the C-Dory the porta-potty is the way we go.

Probably much more than anyone wanted to know! Shocked

We had the factory delete the standard marine head, they gave us a credit for it, and then we bought the Airhead and installed it ourselves - relatively easy. We are using a standard vent with a 12 volt fan wired to the battery - we started out with the Nicro solar vent, but it is not really sunny enough here to keep the battery charged well enough to run the fan...

The gal who bought our CD22 in 2005 put me on to them. When we bought ours, Geoff Trott told us as far as he knew we were the first and only powerboat to have an Airhead - all his other sales were to sailboaters. I don't know anybody else who has one except one of the dealers back east installed one on their boat. Poop, as far as I know, does not care whether the boat moving it around is powered by wind or petroleum!!

As neighbors (often rafted together) with Daydream, we can verify that Pat's boat is odor free and a good neighbor. Seems to us, from his experience, that anyone buying a C-Dory (25' and up) should consider the Airhead as a much better alternative to a standard marine head.

From Steve's comments about , and our experience of 7 years with our porta-potty, the porta-potty is the way to go for most folks with 22's. They are clean, easy to use, odor-free, and easy for waste disposal. We have a menehune aboard who dumps and maintains our porta-potty.

What's a menehune? Well, many probably know they are, in Polynesian belief, the 'little people' -- a race of small, rather mysterious beings similar to leprechauns, pixies, tomte or elves. Although they may sometimes be mischievous, they are not evil.

Menehune are usually about two feet high, although some are only six inches high and could snuggle into the palm of your hand. They are usually naked, but their long straight hair falls to their knees to keep them warm and discreet. They have pointed ears and stocky bodies. To keep from being seen, they only come out at night. We leave pieces of pineapple or papaya out at night for our menehune, and it's always gone by daylight. During the day, we think our menehune lives in El's clothes locker (since she has often found a 'nest' made of her clothes).

Our menehune might have friends willing to join your boat crew and maintain your porta-potty if you promise to be kind.

PS - Any resemblance between menehune and kushtakas is purely coincidental -- they are NOT related in any way. Hate to think what a kushtaka would do with Byrdman's WagBag.

Very interesting since we are always looking at alternatives up here in the North Country! Had our septic freeze up this past Feb with minus 25dF weather. AirHead could come in handy on the C-Dory and in the No Minn winters!! Laughing
