I finally bought a Garmin GMR 18 radar to go with my 3206 chartplotter. I knew that Garmin had the connectors installed at both ends of the radar cable but I was hopeful that the connector would fit inside the radar arch tubing. I think the tube is just too small ID for a 1 1/4 inch connector to fit inside. Has anyone installed a Garmin radar? Does anyone know if the connector could be removed or the cable spliced? I tried emailing Garmin but got no response to the question. I'm hopeful someone has an idea because running the cable on the outside of the arch seems less than desirable.
thanks for your help.

Just finished installing mine had the same issue. I cut the end off. I also install the digital black box for the fish finder. In the box for the fish finder was a repair connector if you had to cut off the end. So I got digging around up on Garmins site and in the assessories for the 3210 I found the replacement ends I think they were 10.00 for two. You will need a crimper or someone who has one. The cables are cross over cables meaning one end is crimped 568A and the other is 568B. Bet you can't guess what I do for a living. If you want to drive it down to Utah I'll put it on for you.

Jody,
Thanks so much for the reply. I would certainly like to take you up on the help. Just a slight bit too far for a weekend drive though! I had thought about cutting the connector off but I don't have your knowledge to do it confidently without knowing that someone else has done it before. I have crimped a few RJ45 connectors in a computer class I did a while back. The connections even worked. Laughing I hope this should be about the same. I ordered the 2 pack of connectors and will move ahead with the install when I get them. Thanks again for your help.
