You won't find a better used boat with under 20 grand to spend. I bought this boat a year ago, for $17,500 and have put 3 grand into it. It has a Johnson 70hp outboard(Original)with only approx 300 hours on the boat and motor! Thats like a boat thats only 5 years old, in terms of wear and tear. There is also a 9.9 older Merc Kicker mounted on. It wasn't working when I purchased the boat. I had a mechanic install a new electric pack, fuel pump, etc. The 70 hp motor is flushed every time out. 9.9 hp never used by me. There is NO corossion from Salt Water anywhere in the motor. I also spent $2500 at a professional yaht repair facility in Sausalito, Ca. Everything was done right. Upgrades include... West marine bottom paint(only 1 year old), dual batteries that were installed under the passenger seat to free up deck space, mounted exterior light for night fishing, 2 flushmount stainless rod holders, marine radio, new toliet(never used), mounted for Scotty downriggers, and bildge pump installed. The boat has a ding here and there. Its 20 years old. But has only been worked like a 5 year old. She is in VERY good condition. She is currently berthed at Glen Cove Marina for a few more weeks. Dock #3.
This is a very fair price for the boat. I will be moving out of state and would prefer not to tow and use her for lakes. That would be a waist. But I will not give her away either. Please no haggling. If you only have $17,000 or so, please dont waist eachothers time. Thanks!

Sean

What the heck. I've been looking around here (Anchorage) for the last 3 months without success. We had a trip planned to SF next week, anyway. I am newly retired from the Air Force after 28 years. I sent a deposit and if the boat is as advertised, I will be spending the following couple weeks working my way back to Anchorage on the ALCAN highway with my new boat. It is great to know there is such a large group with experience like this group to turn to with questions.

Dave, good luck on your trip and research on this boat. Take a look at the electronics: GPS, radar (if any), VHF, windlass(?), trim tabs(?) and other accessories. Sounds like they weren't upgraded recently, at least they weren't mentioned. Bottom paint renewed, might indicate a boat that was kept in the water. Check trailer condition thoroughly. Even though the engine only has 300 hrs on it, don't know how it was properly stored each season, could be problems lurking inside, or, maybe not. I'd have a hull inspection performed as a minimum since it seems to have been kept in the water at least part of its life.

After you check it out, don't hesitate to write a message on here and tell us what you found (if you have a laptop and Internet connection that is). We should be able to reflect some thoughts.

Just made it back to Alaska with the boat (and a new truck). The boat is in great shape. Sean did a super job reworking it and I am thrilled to have gotten it. He was honest and just a good guy to work with. My wife was along and we camped in it and stuck it in the water several times on the way up. I had some trailer work done before I left and was thankful for the new berings and breaks going over the Canadian Rockies! I really like the layout of the Classic - even better than the Cruiser which we have taken out before. We wanted something to use or fishing with the option to spend a night on the water, not something to do long terms cruising. The Classic is perfect for that. The only thing that remains is coming up with a new name. This is great site and thank to everyone for the advice.

Dave – congratulations on the old/new boat. Now you can spend the rest of the summer playing on it and personalizing it.

What did you get to pull it with?

Pulled it with a Ram 1500. No problems at all even going over some pretty amazing passes. Anyway, I had a couple weeks off, was going down there anyway to see family and it turned into an adventure. (but I am glad to be back!)

Dave,

Glad to see that purchase worked out for you. If you ever come down to Deep Creek you will find 5 or 6 older CD's out trolling for salmon. Stop by and chat about your boat at 138.1 Sterling Hyw. and up on the bluff.
And like you said..I am always glad to be back in Alaska.

Thanks,
We went out of Whittier and Resurrection Bay this weekend. Looking forward to exploring the west end of the Kenai as well.
