Transducer Measurements: From What Point?

Since the transducer is below the waterline, is it reading water depth from that point, near the bottom of the boat, or...?

Measures from face of trandsucer, however most depthsounders have settings to compensate for actual hull depth. At least all that I have used in the last few years do...

And to follow along with Dusty's post -- we set the 0 depth for our transducer at 2 feet below the hull. This puts the zero at the props, with a little margin of safety.
