We are currently considering keeping the boat's name--part will be up to my son. I am waiting to find out the derivation of "Frequent Sea"--Actually for us--being a ham radio operator--it is a good play on words. But we would not get the same laughs and comments as the "Thataway"--with the hands with fingers pointing in the opposite direction gets.

There is only one documented vessel with that name.

Congratulations, Dr. Bob...

I really envy your new situation... a comfortable, sea-worthy boat on each coast!! That would be so nice, just to fly up to Seattle area when it gets over 100 degrees here!

I think you made a great decision!

OK BoB.... it has now been over 10 days... How does the boat look?? You got me on this one...cause I was on the road. This looks to be a great deal for sure. You deserve a great deal after all the help you have provided us on this site with things to look for and how to fix/improve it. And...your lovely bride Marie and her help at the Gulf Coast C-Brats gathering with my sister Joan was for sure most welcome during the fish fry.

Keep us posted.

I am currently in PA, about 190 miles from the boat. I'll pick it up tomarrow and start the trek home--outfitting--and then to the PNW all in the next few weeks. Might even stop at Flaming Gorge along the way.

I will document what the problems are--and how they are fixed. C Dory is standing behind the transom under Warantee.

BobJ – congratulations on your new boat. It has been a while since I have been following a this thread, or on this site. Looks like you got a good deal and hopefully Frequent Sea is happy with the deal also. Next time you are in the Northwest, give me a call.

coffee.

One of the few times I post a message without previewing it, is on a thread I can not edit.

The corrected version is as follows;

Next time you are in the Northwest, give me a call. I would consider it a privilege to buy you and your wife lunch or a cup of coffee.

Thanks Dave--I'll be in the PNW in a couple of weeks--assuming all goes well--both with the boat--and my health.

The boat is in Pensacola as of last night. I averaged 20 miles a gallon going to pick up the boat (Excursion 7.3 diesel, towing the trailer). Comming back I averaged 10 miles a gallon driving at about 60 mph. The boat towed much easier than the Tom Cat (weight).

I will be doing assesment on the deck--and fuel tank today and probably start repairs later today. The cockpit deck outer layer of fiberglass is cracked in a large craze pattern where a crew member jumped from the gunnel to the cockpit. This was not repaired and there was water intrusion into the core of the cockpit. There is some question about the plastic fuel tank in my mind, and I may cut out the entire cockpit deck and when we put it back together make it easy to replace the tank if ever necessary.

The general condition of the boat is much as the surveyor described. I'lll do a post about how one should prep a boat for sale. None of the surveyor's suggestions were repaired. The hull is basically in excellent conditon--it needs a good compound and wax job. The interior is as new--no soiling of the upholustery etc. However the previous owner did some strange things with the electrical and various installations (lack of knowlege), which have to be changed and corrected.

The assessment of "rode hard and put away wet" certainly apply--the outboard apparently was left down in the water, no galvanic isolator, power plugged in and there is some pitting of the lower leg of the Honda (125 hours on the meter)--otherwise the engine is fine. It had been winterized.

I'll do a series of posts with photos as I do improvements and fix the items.

Bob: Enjoying watching the progress on this boat and truly look forward to your work-along-log to follow. Transom work? Warrantee work needed? Most sounds cosmetic.

Glad to know your trip was safe and you are back home.

Bob-

Glad you had a safe trip and will look forward to your repair discussions!

You'll probably want to start a new thread, as I think this one is in the boats for sale forum, and posts cannot be edited.

Have fun on your trip!

Joe.

Joe,
You are correct--and the thread is started as "Frequent Sea, Cored decks and the fungus farm". Most likely as I move foreward there will just be a "Frequent Sea" thread. This boat will be much simpler than the TC. The reason I filled out the origional thread was as a follow up from the various survey and critiques of this boat.
