As many of you may know Marc Grove of Wefings in East Point, FL has started a cruiser rental program this year. We have been considering a C-Dory 22 Cruiser purchase for some time and decided to do a trial run with Marc's rental program. Last week we spent five days aboard the Cruise Ship #4, a CD 25. It was a very positive experience.
Marc had the boat in great shape and provided us with some of the largest shrimp I have ever seen from his fridge at home. The boat has a Garmin 498 Map chartplotter with sonar, a Cobb grill which allows you to safely grill right in the cockpit, a quality AM/FM/CD system, VHF radio, air conditioner with generator and an Airhead marine toilet which worked great.
We cruised the Appalachiacola River and many of its creeks, the ICW and St. Joe Bay. We enjoyed it imensely and can better understand now the passion displayed on this great website. The weather was perfect four out of the five days so we still don't know how we would handle a week or more of bad weather. Also, when we got in one of the new 22's at Wefings after the five day cruise on the 25 it felt a little small. We'll figure it all out though. Even if we don't decide to purchase we have the rental option with Marc which we would definitely do again. _________________ Pat and Harper, Mitchell County, NC |

C-dory rentals........hummm.....I don't think it should be allowed. That would be like the drug dealer standing outside the school giving out free Meth samples.........and in your case, they just bypassed the gateway drugs (C-D16, 19 and 22 footer) and went right to hardcore (25 footer).
Glad you enjoyed your experience, these are fun boats, now you're hooked on a mind altering substance _________________ Ken

Pat and Harper --
So great to have such a great cruise -- and good water to be cruising along. Welcome to the gang -- now for the decision about buying ... and if so, what size ... but there's nothing wrong with renting when the urge strikes. Thanks for sharing your good experience with us all -- _________________ El and Bill (former live-aboards)

Boating without the risk of added expenses and the washdown after the cruise just doesn't seem fair. I think that there should be a hidden charge at the end of the cruise just to remind you that you have been boating...you should not be allowed to tip toe up the gang plank and motor away with a smile on your face every time you go rent a boat....it just isn't fair.
(PS: I just saw a report where gas has hit $4.00 a gal in some parts of Florida....These C-Dorys are looking better all the time.) _________________ Mike Taylor

El and Bill,
What an honor to have you comment on our meager adventure. I have read every word and looked at each photo in your inspiring Halcyon Days postings. You are an inspiration to boaters and land lovers alike. We hope all is better with you.

Congratulations on a fun, successful first cruise. Of course, the added benefit of doing it with your OWN boat is: you don't ever have to bring it back! It is very good business for Wefings to offer a rental boat; had I known about this two years ago, I would have made a trip to Florida and eliminated much of my pre-buy angst.
There are many other advantages of ownership (in spite of what my buddy Mike might tell you)... like impromptu sunset cruises, having the boat ready to go anytime you're ready, customizing the boat just the way you want, and the security of an "escape vehicle" whenever you need the mental floss.
Kudos to Wefings and thanks for reminding us that this rental opportunity is out there.
Best wishes,
Jim B. _________________ Jim & Joan
