Hi,

Can someone forward me the email from Raymarine. I guess I am not on their mailing list.

Thanks,

Flip. thanks for the pics. the tide and current stuff looks great, but do you have to have the weather system to make this work or is it just stored info?? I really like to know what the tides are doing in my area. I wander if it just the same info that is in the tide window or will it adjust for your location? I will have to down load and play with it.

Tom, Mac told me that my C-80 had tide (and current?) data inside already. I haven't had time to figure out how to get to it, though. Maybe it has some sort of tide almanac built-in?

If my engine data could "talk" to the C-80, and I could see realtime MPG data, it would make tweaking throttle and trim-tab settings easy. If I were pounding into a sea, and I decided to crack off a bit for comfort, it would be extra-helpful to see MMGPG; I just made that up: Miles Made Good Per Gallon.

I just got my autopilot running again (Thanks, Mac, for procuring the new rudder reference from Raymarine). It might be handy to operate it directly from the C-80 display, but it's not really a big deal to run it off its own control panel. Not a huge issue, but if the C-80 interface is more intuitive, I'll use it.

Plus I still want an AIS receiver Smile What I really need Raymarine to do is to allow me to hack the (single!) NMEA port on the back and send position data output to the VHF for DSC purposes, while bringing AIS data in (at different baud rate) for display on the chartplotter. Since AIS is only a "talker" and the VHF is only a "listener", you don't really NEED two NMEA ports to handle all the data. Except that the baud rates aren't compatible, and you can only configure the C-series NMEA port to use one baud rate or the other. So is there a REAL C-series hacker in the house? Anybody know if these in/out baud rates can be configured independently now? Wink

Hey Tim,

The C-80 has the tide tables, and some limited current info built in. Just hit bring up a chart screen, press "OK", "find nearest", "tide Station" and voila!

Also, the J-90 flow meter tracks gallons per hour - you have to do the math for mpg using the boat's speed thru the water (knot meter - not SOG)

Enjoy!

Mac

I did the earlier update on a Memorex CF card successfully, but that same card, with the latest update copied onto it, won't read. Next, tried a 256mb Lexar CF card...wouldn't read. Both formated FAT.

Spent $20 today for a Scandisk 512mb card.....hope it works. Raymarine says to only ScanDisk is guaranteed to work because that's what the system was designed around. Seems they should include a disk with the system when you purchase it.

Yep. Even a 512 mb card may make it choke, Mike. I lucked out and got a cheap 32 mb SanDisk camera card before Target ran out and so far it's worked great.

I have Sandisk and Fuji CompactFlash cards, but only the Fuji will allow me to update the ROM. The Sandisk works fine for transfering waypoints and routes. Go figure.

The update worked perfectly for me, as always.

The ScanDisk worked. A Memorex and a Lexar did not. I used the Memorex card previously to install the earlier update, but it would not work for this one. Oh well, I can use the cards in my camera.

I have a LEXAR that will not even install in the C80 slot! It works fine in my card reader.

I picked up a cheap 1 gig PNY CF card at Staples, it worked fine for the upgrade. No problems at all.

Mines all updated.

A word of advice.... if your having troubles with the install, make sure the disk doesn't have the download attached to a file.

Couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong, then I finally realized what I had done. (if you have it in a folder, it won't auto load when you power up the machine).

A CF card is a CF card is a CF card; if they conform to the spec, they'll work. Here's my story:

I had a card from my Canon camera, I cleared off all the pictures, I read the instructions, I put the two files in the root directory, and...

It didn't work. The C-80 just ignored the new card.

I surmised that there might be some residual camera-related data on this several-year-old card that was preventing the Raymarine unit from reading it properly. I decided to format the card, erasing everything on it and starting from scratch.

Once I started down this road, I had a choice about which file system to use: FAT or NTFS. Ah-ha! The problem MIGHT be that the card is formatted with the wrong file system. I went to the Raymarine site to learn what file system they require; it's FAT.

So I reformatted the card using the FAT file system option. Re-loaded the two files, and took the card back to the boat. It upgraded just fine.

So if you've got an otherwise good CF card and you can't get it to work in your Raymarine multi-function display, try reformatting it before you go out to buy a new one.

Yeah, yeah. Tried all that.....my camera card was formatted FAT.....still would not work. Only card that would work was the SCANDisk. Raymarine should supply one with their display.
