Just thought I'd throw a heads up to the fellow fisherman in the puget sound area. The blackmouth fishing has been phenomenal the past couple days . I went out yesterday and we were limited within 30 minutes of getting our lines wet. Left everett at about 7:30 and was back by 9:45 and on the trailer. I have heard from some other fishing buddies that most people are coming in with fish, get out there while it's hot. I got my fish on the bar 90 ish feet down, plugs and a coho killer both worked.

Thanks for the report Sark, keep 'em coming !!! Any word on "The Race Track" ? I like fishing it because the sides of the ridge have less snaggables, ie rocks, to grab my ball. _________________ Pete

Haven't heard specifics for the race track, but have heard that elger bay or onamac kicked out a very large fish last week, Something like 19 lbs thats a big blackmouth. Also that area 8.1 and 8.2 were having good sucess too overall and Langley has been good. I've never snagged bottom on the bar. The reason I chose that spot is it just opened last thursday or firday and hasn't seen as much traffic. Either way it supposedly has been good for lots of people. I'm going to try to head out monday or tuesday after work.

Black mouth are kings that don't go to the ocean. They just hang a round the sound and feed all winter. It started a planted fishery years ago. many clubs around the sound still raise blackmouth. Puget sound anglers is one of them. If they keep the kings in the rearing pens long enough then they will not head out to the ocean. Theres more to it then that but I would have to go look up the details. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

Peter,
I didn't take any pics, and cleaned them right when we got home. They were not anything real special. mine was about 25inches, and my buddies about 23. When I catch something a little better I might post a pic. By the way Roger, what size was you're fish you got hard to tell from the pic but he looks chunky?

Sark,
He was only 24" and change but he was a nice fat "football" shape. I'm guessing he was close to 6lbs. Had one fillet for dinner last night, fed 4 with another portion left over. |

Nice . It was hard to tell in the photo but did look chunky. Nothing wrong with a fish that size either. I was pretty happy with the fish we caught the other day, after all it is blackmouth fishing and I've had plenty of days going home empty handed, especially when I first took it up. I think there are alot of cookie cutter fish out there. In november, I caught numerous fish that were just undersized on the bar, I'm sure alot of those are just legal now or an inch or three above.

I'm planning on going out too, not sure yet whether it will be saturday or sunday. I guess whichever day looks better weather wise. Keep an eye out. Or tune in to 68.

Fishing is still not bad out there. Hit the bar again, with Starcraft Tom, and my buddy John. Today was a little tougher . We ended up taking home two fish, and tossed back some legals on top of it. Forgot to bring an accurate measuring device, so we didn't take any chances with just legal fish. Also hoping for something bigger. Some guys from our fishing club were out too and had similar luck. Coho killers produced the most fish. Lots of cookie cutters out there that are right between 20-23 inches. Nice weather today, and also saw the Miss Mirth leaving everett. Good Day on the water!!

I did pretty good the first and second day of the Black Mouth opener in Port Angeles. The first fish was pretty typical for the winter hole. The second day produced a little nicer fish. If interested, photos are the last two in my fishing album.
