Our 2001 Yamaha 80 4 stroke manual says to trailer with the motor down...........BUT.........we do the opposite for fear of dragging the skeg.
Confused

I trailer my twin Yami 80's in the UP position, but use transom savers to hold them. Got to make sure your boat doesn't move around during trailering though, could put a lot of stress on the outboard with transom savers.

I have also been told in both the Suzuki and Yahama dealers that the locking tab was not designed for trailering. I used a "transom saver" on the 22--but it fit into a slot on the top of the trailer frame, just under the roller, and locked in with a half a twist. (Pacific trailer)--this seemed to give excellent support--but the rubber cushion had to be constantly readjusted with "duct" tape. On the TC 255-there is plenty of road clearance with the motors down.

Tens of thousands of miles of trailering with the engines down, resting on a one-inch dowel -- no problems yet! Course, if we had trailered with engines up, we'd probably be saying the same thing.

Hi Folks,

The Yamaha Dealer told me NOT to use the transom saver, that it puts undo stress on the motor. So I tow it with engine up. I might try El and Bill's system. I am scared that engine down, when you go over a bump, the engine will hit. It happened with my old 70 hp.

Maybe they dont use transom savers in Alaska cause their fingers stick to the cold metal ?? We trailer boats every which way and dont seem to have problems . I think alot of the transom saver thought process came from older weaker [ especially wood core ] transom boats than C Dorys .You see alot of Bass Boats with huge motors using them, but the C Dory transoms are very strong....
