Well it's that time of year again where the looney bin and the jerry spring show all get boats and head to the lake. thats right the whole trailer park is invited!! sockeye fishing on lake washington this weekend only. Three days of mayham and flying hooks. Long liners and downriggers will be seeing who can snag the most gear from one another while the jiggers get drunk and fall overboard. tubes, kayaks, ski boats, float tubs, 60 ft cruisers, bath tubs, surf boards, and anything in the trailer park that once floated will be hitting the lake this saturday. Dont let bad gas or judgement stop you from joining the fun. Grab grandpas rusted, rotted, torn and broken boat and head for the lake theres fish to be caught!!!
Its worth the 4 hour launch wait and the 3 hour retrive wait and remember only fish where everyone else is no matter how small the area because all 350,000 sockeye in the lake are right next to where the last guy you saw hook up is. so full throttle ahead and get to his spot before bubba does. And remember the more small children you have in the boat the more you have to yell and cuss.
I will not be there. i will be camping in the san jauns. and beleive it or not, I wish that I could spent the whole three days on the lake. I love sockeye season. Its a side show, county fair, bad family reunion and the jerry spring show all rolled in to one. I , with the help of my buddies sister in law, caused no fewer then 3 boat wreaks last time. She was 16, hot and sun bathing on the bow of my starcraft. ever time she rolled over or got on her knee's to change postion some bubba ran in to another bubba and all hell broke lose. I just love sockeye season. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

Sockeye on the lake is definitly a site to behold. Take your patience, along with your bare red hooks. I'll be fishing all three days since it is in my backyard. The fishing can be pretty good, just watch out for the drunk guys. Anyone else going to brave it?

This year in BC they switched to "flat black" bare hooks. Someone re-programed the fish. |

Sounds like a good tourist attraction. For the 2 most miserable years of my life I lived in Las Vegas and we would often go to a 6 lane launching ramp on lake Mead and just enjoy the show. There were lots of folks who had never been on a boat before who bought boats there because Mead was so close. Boats sitting on a concrete launching ramp with no trailer are really pretty funny if the they are not yours, and I believe I saw the beginnings of several divorces from spouses trying to interpret backing directions from the other spouse. I think you are missing a real opportunity to enjoy the spectacle. |

Well I for one look at Sockeye season on Lake Washington with mixed emotions. I'll be on the lake all weekend but won't be fishing. We will be finishing up the setup for Seafair. So I'll be down there with the fish hoping some nucklehead doesn't run me over. It's amazing how few boaters know what a dive flag means. The plus side is that all those subsurface anchors out there snag a mess of trolling gear. Last season they had netted me about 8 brand new flashers. 2 inch anchor lines and 1000# anchors trumps whatever they have on their reels.
