I finally installed the M120 trim tabs. Haven't tried them yet. Need to fab the kicker mount that I believe was drawn up by Tyboo. Local machinist is looking for a peice of 1/8 inch stainless. Will this be thick enough? Any recommendations on material? My kicker is a yamaha 4 stroke 15H.P. It weighs 100lbs. In search of a backing (mount) plate material also.

Note: When I removed the kicker from the transom I was suprised to see four nice slits punched clear thru the gel-coat. The inside of the engine mount bracket has nice tiny little grippers that cut right into the glass. The engine fit so tight over the transom that no room was available for a pad.

Chris,

I recently purchased a MiniJacker kicker mount. I have not installed it yet but it looks good. This mount is being used by the factory on new boats. It is a fixed mount made of aluminum and a backing block. It is made by T-H marine but you have to buy from a dealer. I found one online and it was just less than $100.

I looked at getting the Tybo mount made but around here the shops wanted over $200 to make it.

Steve,
We had the factory install a Mini-Jacker bracket when we had the Bennett M-120 trim tabs installed in December.
I like the installation, very solid and clean.

Steve,

After breaking a mount installed by the dealer in the first two months, I bought a Garelick backboard that I mounted directly to the transom with four long bolts. It clears the Bennet trim tabs by about 2 inches when set to the right level and pitch. The whole thing including a stainless steering link to the kicker from main was less than $100.

I also have the Mini Jacker, and would recommend it. It seems bomb proof, very solid. I also had the plastic garelick board on my old defiance and that worked too, but did not seem quite as solid. The mini jacker will give a bit more clearance from the trim tabs too. Both will work.

Tom: Was the mount that failed the Mini-Jacker? Or another brand?

Can anyone comment on the Mini-Jacker: Does it carry the prop out of the water in the raised (tilted) position? It seems like the best solution for me. When the Mini-Jacker is bolted to the transom, I asume four bolts. Two high and two low. Are all four bolts above the inner splash well? Or do two lower bolts extend below the splash well and come in behind the fuel tank? Thanks for all the feedback...

It wasn't the Mini Jacker, but a hydraulic assisted mount.
