Today I noticed a tube running up the rear bulkhead between the port side window and the door frame. It's a clear flexible plastic coming out of the floor and running up the wall about four feet. Looks like something should be attached to it. I don't seem to see it referenced in the "rather sketchy" owners manual.

Thanks

It's so you can see the level of the water in the water tank.

What I did with mine is found a plastic cap that is larger than the tubing and glued it to the wall....so it is about half over the tube....that keeps dust and junk from falling down the tube... I have see small floats dropped down the tube to indicate the water line....but it is easy enough just to look and see the water level.

I don't have one but I would guess it's a vent for your water tank, or a place where you could add single malt scotch if you want scotch and water instead of plain water.... Shocked

Thanks for the quick replys - it's almost like being in a chat room - hey maybe that's an idea for a site enhancement?

BTW: I like both suggestions - but first the Scotch and then the cap. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Folks, it is a low tech water gauge, not a vent. A quick glance gives you an estimate. Some folks place tape or marks to give approximate gallons. Pour in five gallons at a time and mark the water line. If you look on your port side you will see two vents below the rub rail. The aft vent of course is for the port gas tank - the one forward of the bulkhead is the water tank. I don't know when the factory started putting the tube gauge in. My 1996 cruiser had it, and so does my current 1999 cruiser.

Sark - I'll venture a guess. Am assuming your boat has the Bay Star hydraulic steering. (I just retrofited my 22' cruiser with the Bay Star)
The cap screws to a plastic bottle of hydraulic fluid and the tube with a fitting screws into the pump at the helm. The tack is for piercing the bottom of the plastic bottle to get the fluid flowing once the bottle is inverted.??? John

Yep, I have hydraulic steering so that must be it. Haven't read the baystar maunual yet. But I was looking at this tube puzzled. Thanks for the answer. Thumbs Up

That's it, I've got Sea Star steering and had to buy such a kit to top it off. They cost >$10 so you got a deal!! Laughing
