Hank (the skipper of Sea Skipper) has done an outstanding job outfitting his CD-25. Those of us in the trimaran sailing world, know what a great job he did with Water Skipper, his F-31. Here's the link to some very nice details...
Looks good, Hank.
Best wishes,
Jim B.

Hank-
Absolutly outstanding layout and execution! Shows a great deal of fore thought and understanding. First class all the way!!! A+++!
Whose observatory is that behind the boat shown with the cover in the yard?

Yeah, what Joe said - this one is loaded for bear! There is definitely some food for thought here for future CD25 customizers. _________________

As a matter of fact, (but really my opinion), some of the changes, adaptations, and installations are so good that the Boys in Auburn (Jeff and the C-Dory crew) will probably pick up on them and add them to the production line.
You can tell this is not Hank's first new boat to rig!

What, no garbage disposal?
And how does he do without an electronic water level indicator for that forward tank? I know he can look at it but what if it's dark and the flashlight doesn't work!!
Actually it's a great professional job of rigging. I'm just jealous!!

Thanks for the complements, Jim & others. I'm blushing! Many of the ideas incorporated in Sea Skipper come from the postings of fellow C-Brat owners and from Les Lampman and his crew at E. Q. Marine who have done outstanding work. Posting these pictures gives me the chance to return the favor. I have as much fun working on boats as I do sailing; thus for me, living in the central part of Oregon, a trailerable boat is a must. Hope to get in some serious cruising this summer.
Joe, I built the observatory about 25 years ago, but it doesn't get much use - hard to match the images sent back by the various space probes. _________________ Hank Brooks

Hank, looks like if you installed a Wallas in the observatory, it could do double duty as a Yurt!
You may have gotten ideas from elsewhere but it's apparent that the craftsmanship is supurb!!

Thanks for posting all those great photos Hank; Sea Skipper is looking wonderful.
The guys from C-Dory did get to see Hank's boat while it was here at E.Q.; it happened that they were up this way to launch the TomCat 255 for its maiden voyage.
I'm proud we had a hand in bringing Sea Skipper to life; it was a demanding but rewarding experience. We were able to push the envelope so to speak in several areas because of Hank's experience, his trust in us to get it right, and his willingness to let me get a little creative. There was a lot of give-and-take and many hours of discussion and in the end I think it resulted in a boat better than either of us could have imgained in the beginning.
Hank has continued where we left off and has added many wonderful things to the boat since he took delivery; I can hardly wait until he's up this way again and stops by for a visit. _________________ Les

One of the possible comments I thought of while we were just up watching the bass torunament weigh in at Shasta Lake would be that Hank's boat looks like it was "Les' Own Personal Project Boat" because it had so many great ideas and execution.
Now we know that's at least partially true in how it was brought together!
And that's not to knock Hank! Just look at the F-31!!!
Those of us who are lifetime sailors know how much sailboats teach one in rigging and seamanship.
Owning a boat will teach you a whole nearly universal set of skills if you give it your time and attention, both on and off the water.
Hank-
I could tell from your F-31 and the C-Dory you were the type that would enjoy astronomy, science, and engineering!
Congratulations on a job well done!

Sea Skipper I loved the photos so many great ideas.
I hope you do not mind but I posted one of your photos of the scupper anti siphon modification on the Osprey Owners group website. It has a link back to C-Brats.We Osprey owners are having to replace our scuppers in our boats becuase they where installed incorectly by the factory and some of our boats have taken on water and one has partly sunk at the dock ruining a Volvo Kad 44 diesel. He is a personal friend of mine.
I hope C-brats does not mind and Sea Skipper does not mind that I posted his great idea.
I need to find 3 of those anti siphon units for my boat.Any ideas who makes them?
Thanks once again. _________________ Steve Bartlett

I have an idea that may or not be possible to ask of Hank and/or Les:
There are so many good decisions in this boat that it would be good to hear about how the equipmenbt and rigging decisions were reached.
Depending on how familiar you are with outfitting issues, the C-Dory owner will see much more or much less when they look at this boat. To the newbie, it will just looks like a nicely outfitted boat. To the more experienced C-Dory owner and boater, it will reveal some very interesting and intelligent solutions to the questions of what equipment to use and how to place it in the boat.
It would be very revealing to most of us to hear a dialogue that would explain how this boat was rigged.
It wouldn't have to be historically accurate, of course, but just share with us the thinking that went on.
What do you think?
Hank?
Les?

Joe,
The old white-headed one was just a daily observer on the gestation of that beauty - and a joy to watch two old sailor lads get their creative heads together. I'm sure that you know Les was and is a sailor and is building another one. And of course both Hank and Les are electrical and computer wizards -- teamwork at its best. So much friendly give and take in this project that I wish I had had a tape recorder -- and a copy of all of the emails and phone calls.
And if you want to see the tow vehicle I'd love to own -- the one that tows that CD jewel is another jewel!!!!

Hank,
Gorgeous boat and terrific installations, my son says your dash looks like something out of a 747! I've looked at all the pictures several times, but will take many, many more visits to let it sink in. Also, several of the mods just aren't doable on the viintage of my CD25
Got a question, that inspection plate in the middle of your V-berth footwell floor, what is it for? Also, looks like they mounted YOUR water tank level so you can get full use of it...good for you!

C-Dory installed the round inspection plate that you see in the floor of the V-berth. I noticed a small water leak during my last cruise of 2005 and Les arranged for a stop at C-Dory’s factory site on the way home. The leak was only apparent when heading into chop where typically you would use the trim tabs to lower the bow for a smoother ride or in the really rough stuff. Jeff, Scott and others came out to look at the boat and Frank (?) quickly figured out the problem. The drain hole into the anchor locker had been drilled a bit too low and after close to 1,000 NM water was leaking between the hull and anchor locker floor into the foam filled bow area where it quickly appeared through a pin hole in the small floor step up into the V-Berth.
They asked if I could leave the boat with them overnight and had the problem fixed midmorning the next day. They drilled out the anchor drain hole, packed in epoxy (?), re-drilled through the repair, installed a small drain at the base of the V-berth floor just in case and the 6” inspection plate mentioned above to aid in drying out the foam. They also gave me a piece of teak molding, tube of caulk, and fitted carpet for the floor. All in all I’m kind of glad I had the leak. I’ve been meaning to call up Jeff Messmer and thank both he and his crew for the quick response. * Thanks, Jeff & Crew * |

Steve,
What's the link to the Osprey Owners Group?
The Osprey is a nice boat, if I want to read about them I'd like to go to their owners group.
