|
|
I seem unable to reliably send or reply to private messages. I suspect it is user error, and would appreciate help removing the error.
Specifically:
Sometimes I try to send a message (for example, in response to an ad that says "PM me"), and my response languishes in my "Outbox," without apparently being transmitted to the target.
Other times, someone will PM me, and I click "respond," then type in a message and hit save. These messages, too, languish in my "Outbox," rather than transmitting to the target.
That said, as a test, I just PM'd myself. And the message went through! I saw it in my Inbox, and I found it in my Sentbox.
Can you help me understand?
Thank you. _________________ Eight years a Wannabe ... though my situation seems to be improving... |

Thanks, joeFB, for sending a test message to my PM. I received it, and replied with all my might, but my reply is in repose in my Outbox, rather than actually being sent. |

You are doing it right. The message will stay in the Outbox until the recipient reads it, then it will move to the Sentbox. _________________ TyBoo Mike

Thank you, TyBoo, for the validation! Makes perfect sense. |

edit to add: Thanks, too, for the fast response. And, of course, for all you do to keep this site running smoothly.

Another question:
Do messages in the outbox ever expire if the recipient never opens the message? I had a message in the outbox for a long time and now it’s gone but I’m not sure if that means it was read or if it just timed out. _________________ Clay

I can’t say for certain that they never expire but the oldest one in my outbox is dated October 9, 2009. |
