Just got home from AZ yesterday.On March 6 I fell and broke my hip. I spent about a month between hospital and a crappy rehab center in Chandler. Capt. Jim Bathurst visited me 2x in rehab, and Sleepy C Harvey visited me in my fifth wheel in Casa Grande, very grateful to both! Glad we had Emergency Assistance Plus - they provided a driver to get our truck, camper, and cargo trailer from AZ to BB (it will get here tomorrow according to the driver), and flew Patty and me home! _________________

Glad to hear you made it back home & had insurance. Sad for you having this problem & we were sure looking forward to seeing you two at Friday Harbor.

Pat, so sorry to hear of this misfortune. So glad that you had Emergency Assistance Plus coverage to be of help. Would love to hear about which plan you had to provide this service to get not only your rig and trailer but both of you home safely. Also, glad that you had C-Brat members there locally at the time to support and encourage you both. Colleen and I plan to launch out of Blain for this year's annual C-Brats Friday Harbor Gathering. Let us know if we can assist you for making the gathering and possibly to make the crossing together. Gary _________________ Gary F

Sorry to hear of your fall but glad you had a company that helped when you needed it. I had a heart attack while boating on the Trent Severn. Didn't know how I was going to get my truck and boat home as my licence was suspended for a month by the doctors. Was able to upgrade my gold card AAA to the RV Plus and they put my truck on a flatbed + towed the boat behind. Drove wife and me home as well - about 200 miles. Think there was a 2 or 3 day waiting period from when you upgraded to when you could use the extra services but I was in hospital for 5 days anyway.
Take care and get well,

Oh my! So that explains the wheelchair therapy dog pic and your daughter exhorting you to keep on walking.
Glad you got home easily. I hope Patty didn't enjoy the first class flying and the camper delivery too much or she might be wanting one of you to bust something every year.
Keep your soul up high and your soles on the ground and you will do great. _________________ TyBoo Mike

When to "Hang It Up"?
Sorry, Pat, to learn of your injury and required unpleasant recovery.
No one wants to be injured doing something they enjoy, even hear of another's
misfortune. And, yes, accidents do happen. Also, it happens we have a part in
our own fate; when our dreams and aspirations intersect with our perceived
physical and mental abilities.
So below are some factors I've come across:
* age per se, no
* no longer fun
* emotional pull of grandchildren/family
* money problems; ie, shortage
* not on the same page as your boating partner
* wrong attitude, mental state, too grouchy
* loss of confidence, mobility, balance, focus
* loss/inability to make needed repairs
* history of poor seamanship
* lack of weather knowledge
Maybe it's time to check in with yourself before...

I've been following your journey through this challenge on Facebook so Kim and I are glad you and Patty are both home safe!
As others have said, keep up with your PT. You'll want to be out enjoying your boat this summer and catching those delicious crab.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery from Kim, Sunshine and myself! _________________ Patrick and Kim Walker

Thanks all! The encouragement and support of friends means the world to me. I just scheduled the initial assessment visit with Whatcom Physical Therapy. Hoist a glass for me at Friday Harbor! |

Hi Pat,
Just got home from a trip and saw this. Very sorry to hear of your injury.
Karen and I hope your recovery becomes a memory (or something to forget) as soon as possible.
