My Tomcat came with a Wallas stove/heater. I rarely use it and it is just one more thing to maintain...and it takes up counter space. Not really needed in Southern California.

It works fine. https://photos.app.goo.gl/h5Vh3iAvmpHbmKn17 here is a video of it on the work bench. I took it out because the surface blower wasn't kicking on but it was just a corroded connection. So, it's fully functional. I've never rebuilt it but it has barely ever been used.

I'll get some more pictures when it cools down. If no one is interested I'll re install it.

$425 plus shipping.

I was really surprised by the lack of interest. The Wallas 85D is a good reliable heater/cooker combo. Our Wallas 95D gave us never ending trouble until finally replaced by a Wallas 85D on a SE Alaska cruise in 2012. Just that first year we put 784 hours on it & many trouble free thousands of hours since with the only trouble a defective fuel pump in the last 12 seasons. A new equivalent is at least $3000. This was a really good opportunity missed for someone.

I thought about it, but for heating there are better options. Same for cooking.

From what I've gathered from this site over the years, Wallis units have uncertain reliability, are expensive to repair, and have a single vendor for parts and service.

I actually bought a used one once, but never installed it and passed it on.

mine isn't a unique opinion but I agree: for cooking there are better choices and for heating there are better choices

in the PNW having a dedicated diesel heat source (I have a Webasto) is key to cruising in all but prime summer conditions

I had a Wallas in my 22 cruiser and never had a problem with its operation but was on the verge of installing a dedicated diesel heater when I sold it and bought the Camano

I was looking for one of these units right up until December. The previous owner took the stove out for more counter space and put in a Dometic water based heat pump. That works, but I am not using Runt in a berth with electricity, so it did me no good. Last month I put in one of the Chinese diesel heaters, the self contained kind with integral fuel tank. It only required upgrading the exhaust pipe, running that to a through-hull, and hooking up an air intake and 12 volt connection. Just as easy to pull out in the spring, too. I would not trust it while I slept, but for winter cruising it is ideal--warm, dry heat with no fogged windows. Cheap enough that if it doesn't last, I can replace it. Sam
