Raven's Roost now has thousands of tiny black dots (1 mm or so in size) on the deck and cabin roof. They accumulated during summer on Yellowstone Lake. They do scrub off--mostly, but not completely with dish soap and a soft bristle brush. I would like to get them off completely before I wax. I don't want to hit the gel coat too hard. Any suggestions for cleaner and scrubbing tools?

I'm guessing mold. Some kind of spray with bleach? I use some stuff occasionally that I think is called Barkeepers Friend. It's not quite as abrasive as Comet. |

Mold/mildrew spots that grow in the moisture left by condensation on the outside of the boat (at least on my boat). They come off with some soap, a microfiber cleaner, and some elbow grease. Bleach solution works too.
IME a micro fiber cleaner works better than a brush on smooth surfaces. The brush works better on the non-skid surface. |

This sounds like Artillery Fungus. I suffered from the same problem at the house. The cars, house siding, windows would be covered with hard to remove hard black dots. It would take vigorous scrubbing/scraping to remove them. A stain would remain but would quickly sun bleach out. Took me years to finally figure out that these dots were from the Artillery Fungus located in my extensive hard wood mulching in my landscaping. Changed to pine needle mulch and it stopped! Four years no spots. _________________ Take care, Pete

Tilex works really well on those spots if they are the same as ones we get around here. Even better is this from Home D. It’s pretty much the same as Tilex at a fraction of the cost. Just spray it on and the spots disappear. _________________ TyBoo Mike

I get the same thing here. It's pollen and its very easy to get off. I use " 30 second cleaner" from home depot or walmart. just spray on with a pump bottle sprayer and let set for 5 mins. Most everything, mold, bird shit, pollen that has molded and sap will just wash off with a hose or a soft brush at most. Great on fish blood and slim as wellas scales that have dried. I use it on the boat car bike house and decks. its just amazing. _________________ Thomas J Elliott
