Any idea what the shortest possible trailer is for a 25? Maybe with a folding tongue? I have a 25 foot driveway I want to store the empty trailer in (and keep a boat on the water). But I don’t want to pay for trailer storage AND a slip fee so if I can’t park the trailer in my driveway I need to convince myself a 22 is the right boat for me. *(Unless an empty trailer for a 22 won’t fit either?)

The 25 trailer will definitely be too long. I doubt that you can get it under 25' with the folding tongue adaptor. Just the winch stand, and trailer jack will make it abut two feet longer than the boat. My recollection is that my Load Rite trailer was over 30 feet.

There is a pretty good chance a 22 trailer will be too long for your driveway also. The Fulton Folding tongue adaptor is rated for 9,000 lbs. But it is with a 3 x 5 tongue. Also you have to decide what braking system you are going to use. I recommend a Electric/Hydraulic brake system for the C Dory 25.

My son keeps his C Dory 25 in the Dana Point Marina, and stores his trailer in Oceanside, inland. He only uses the trailer if he needs to have work done on the engine like a water pump or lower unit oil change. I believe that most of the time he has gotten away with doing these in the Parking lot. He has the boat hauled for bottom paint at the travel lift there in Dana Point.

The renewed plan for Dana Point may have a dry stack (estimated costs are $400 million dollars. I'll bet more.) Guess who is paying for this? Slip holders. Watch the rates go up. Also with the new plan, I wonder if parking will be seriously impacted for slip holders? I guess that they could put in parking structures or remote parking and a shuttle bus?

Thanks Bob for the info. I figured the trailer for a 25 was wishful thinking. I currently have a sailboat in Dana (for sale) so I'm intimately familiar with the changes affecting slip owners and current...and likely increasing...fees.

That's part of my rationale for getting something that can be trailered...I'd like to stay in the water as long as possible since that aligns more closely with how I currently plan to use the boat and maximize my time, but I'd also like the option to pull the boat and store it...or even expand my cruising grounds...if/when the slips get too expensive.

Unfortunately, even dry storage at Dana quoted me 3 years on the waitlist and the new construction won't solve that...at least not fast enough to help me.

My other option is to find a boat without a trailer (these seem to be very rare) and then just plan to purchase a trailer when I leave the harbor.

A final thought, how hard is it to sell a trailer if the boat I find comes with one and I can't find a place to store it? Or, I wonder if anyone would be in "need" of a trailer that would agree to store it (with full usage rights of course) for a few years until I need it?

But...first things first, as my boat hasn't sold yet, and when it does I'm not sure I'll be able to find a C-Dory in the ~3-6 months I'll have to fill the slip before I forfeit my spot.

My 22 on my trailer is more than 30 feet long. When looking for storage spaces I look for 35 feet.

Yeah…I’m under no illusion I’ll be able to park either a 22 or 25 on a trailer in my 25’ driveway. I was just hoping an empty trailer might fit in the space I have. But you’re right…note to self…buy a house with a longer driveway next time!
