I have used the "bounce" method to retrieve a stuck anchor through the roller without problems as well. |
What's the "bounce" method?

If the anchor is stuck, a way that retrieves it is to pull the rode up as tight as you can get it and then bounce up and down on the bow. This forces the bow up and down. When the bow is down tighten up the rode as much as you can and let the buoyancy of the boat pull on the anchor as it rises (sort of like reeling in a fish). If there are waves or swells you can use that motion too (although the whole point of anchorages is protection from waves and swells). The buoyancy force of the boat is usually more than you can provide just by pulling. This only works on boats that are small enough to respond to a person bouncing on the bow.
There are other ways to get an anchor loose including driving over it and backing down hard. Depends on what it is hung up on. |
