I want to mount a Miinkota Ulterra trolling so I can use spot lock to jig for Lake Trout on Lake Superior. Has anyone mounted one ? Did you have to take the stainless steel railing off? 112 or 80 lb thrust? |

I've been pondering on that same thing. It would sure be slick for jigging rock fish and kokane and maybe even work as a bow thruster if there was a need. I kind of put the idea on the back burner because I don't know if I want to mess with additional batteries and I was waiting for you to pioneer this option
here's a discussion on that very topic.

I put a 96 inch Rhodan on the front of mine. Just spent a few days offshore with it. It's truly magical.
Pics are in my album. Feel free to reach out with questions. I've installed this motor on two boats. You can find youtube videos under Captain Starbucks showing the install on my previous boat.
It's almost cheating. I drove around the reef looking for fish, found them and parked right on top of them using the spotlock anchor feature and limited out in no time. Even if you don't want to spotlock, you can just point the bow into the wind. Having the cabin block the wind offshore while taking waves on the bow is huge. You can also spotlock and jog around the reef any direction you choose and it'll lock on the new spot. _________________ 2009 C-Dory TomCat 255 Yamaha F150's

I have a Terrova on my 22, not quite as fancy as an Ulterra. Love it, a real game-changer, particularly for low- speed trolling and the spot-loc. pics in my album. _________________ Rob Harrison & Marcia Ciol

Here is the link to a discussion of a trolling motor on a C Dory 22 angler
There are some advantages and perhaps it makes it more difficult to anchor, to get around on the foredeck, etc? The Tom Cat is a bit different, since you can orient the trolling motor mount due fore and aft.; _________________ Bob Austin
