On the off-chance that I will be sufficiently recovered to go to to the FH gathering, we pulled Daydream out of the garage yesterday and discovered the Fulton tongue jack on the King Saltwater trailer was toast. Looking to replace it and would appreciate some guidance on specs. I will measure the frame size (actually Patty will), but what lifting capacity does it require to get the tongue off the ball of the trailer hitch?

Thanks!

Pat, glad to hear that there is hope for you and Patty to attend the FH event.

To go with a trailer jack that has a rating lift of 1500 lbs. and 15 inches of travel should be sufficient. There are also units out on the market better able to withstand the elements of salt which is another consideration. https://www.westmarine.com/west-advisor/Choosing-a-Trailer-Jack.html

For the 25, I like to have the biggest I can get. A 2000 lb capacity should be easier or better than a 1000 lb capacity. When you get to this size, I prefer a good foot, rather than 2 wheels. You are not going to be rolling that trailer around safely. Get the ball spot on, and then lower it down. Move with the truck or SUV.

2,500# is even better. Raising and lowering with a push button (12v) is even easier than cranking on the shoulder of I-10 in July. If it totally dies at the end of the 5-year Warranty, it will have cost me under $70 per year. Loving it!

Thanks! West Marine can have a suitable Fulton tongue jack in by Tuesday. LFS has one but it seems to be an off-brand and the price quoted of less than $100 seems to be too cheap!
