It is Matrix 87C - already ordered, and I'll give a report as soon is installed. Suspect it is similar to Flagold's unit as far as the screen goes.

This is the 87:

This is the 97:

Same 4-mile basemap in each (I think all their units are 4 mile now (standard is 36 mile for most) for entire U.S.

I've had good luck with mine so far.

We are looking at getting a bundled electronics package, Raymarine C80. This bundle includes the Raymarine 2D 2kw 18" Radome radar antenna. Does anyone have any experience with this or thoughts on if this radome is adequate?
Thanks,
Jeff and Julie

Hi Nick,

You've helped me out often when I have asked for assistance and guidance in the past.... allow me to return the favor.

Choose the high radar arch as opposed to the low. I understand you want rocket launchers which can still go on the outboard rails of the taller arch.

When I went through this same search this past month for my new 22' the deciding factor was being able to carry an inflatable. One will fit nicely below the higher arch.

If you choose the low arch, you will pretty much eliminate being able to carry the inflatable on the roof.

Best Regards,

Gary R.

Gets my vote too - I've had the C80 package for two years now and its great. Integrated system works for me.

Thanks for the replies! We just wanted to make sure that the radome seemed adequate, 18".
We think we will be very happy with the C80 system. The functionality looks great and it seems to be fairly user friendly.

Jeff and Julie,
I also have been wanting to upgrade my electronics with the C-80 package, so I went to the Everett Boat Show Friday night and got a price quote from Boaters World. They said that their "Show Special" which was 20% under normal price. Not being a electronic buff of what to order they gave me a quote for a 2 KW and 4 KW radar dome. The sales person said that the 2 KW was OK, but the 4 KW was a much better unit. It is good to hear that the 2 KW should do the job for me, since the price difference was about $ 670.00. It would good to get opinions from others that have bought this package to see if this is a the right equipment that I should be ordering. I need to let them know by the end of today to get the price thou. Is there anything that has been forgotten? Any help from others would be muchly appreciated. I will list below.

hydraulic o/b system package st6002sig
C80 8.4 " display c-80
digital sounder dsm 300
transom mt transducer e66054
2 KW 18" radome e52065
GPS sensor 125
Auto Pilot remote S100
Nav.Chart (P. Sound & B.C.) navionics chip cf 913g
Price was about $5500 plus tax.
Thanks, Jim

Jim,

We were also looking at Boater's World. I know that for outfitting a boat, they can also call their Corporate and get a discount right in their store. I am not sure if it is as good as 20% though.

Nick,

I put the high arch on my boat so I could carry kayaks and inflatables on the roof. I put two rail mount rod holders on each side on the cross braces that work well. It is also a convenient place to hang a fender midships when docking and looks like it would be a place to hand a life ring. You will probably need to move the all round light/anchor light to the radar arch since it needs to be higher to be seen all round.

What they said, but I have the C-70. (smaller screen size - big enough for me). The overlaping rader works GREAT!

For those looking at the C-80 package, you might want to call Consumer Marine Electronics 1-800-332-2628 (www.consumersmarine.com) and ask them for a quote on your whole package. When I bought mine, their catalog price was the lowest I could find, but they did even better when I called and asked for a quote. I just checked their web site and they're having some problems with it, but they've always been significantly lower than the other quotes and generally ship the same day you order.

Work Release, I have basically the same system you listed, but with the Raymarine SportPilot (autopilot for cable steering - wish I'd gone hydraulic!). You didn't list the Smart Heading Sensor, however ($709 from CME), which significantly improves the radar's MARPA functions and gives you better autopilot response. You might want to consider it too.

I've seen some ads for a $150 rebate on the C-80 plotter, good until mid-April.

Love my C-80. Autopilot is dynomite!! Tracks straight & true with no wander, even downhill. MARPA is absolultely hot. My radar is mounted on the low arch, and thus far seems to work fine. Am considering a wedge, but not totally sure I need it. Just seems it would be better. May even consider mounting a 6" tower on top of the arch, but again, nothing at this point seems to indicate I really need it. One thing I wish the C80 had is the ability to draw the course line in color, to be able to distinguish it quickly form other lines on the chart. Garmin highlights in yellow.

Regarding reliability and company warrantee,JRC just informed me that I need to purchase a new unit because my 2004 unit had "water intrusion" which is not covered. I was advised to relocate it where it won't get wet. I'm not sure if garmin has the same warrentee with radar as they do with GPS but my experience has been they really back up the product and/or have good flat rates to rehab even their older products.
