C-Brats,
Roger Juntunen last trombone solo was played Friday at a Veterans Day event. Roger passed away from natural causes out duck hunting somewhere near home around Rupert Idaho on Saturday November 12 2022. "He had a duck with him."
Everyone knew Roger at C-Brats and his boat "In Cahoots". I did some research - his last post here was May 5, 2022 related to FHCBGT. “We will be there with trombone and potato pins”
Maybe Rev. Pat Anderson can craft a superstar tribute for Roger at 2023 FHCBGT. All this information came in to me this morning from his Cousin Dick in Montana. Dick was a tag-a-long at CBGT and usually had a big metal fishing boat.
Roger didnt have a photo album. I shot some excellent footage in 2018. Roger was wearing the yellow jacket behind Pat Anderson (giving speech). Follow YouTube link below to see him.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Roger. By nature he was such a loving and giving individual. I have multiple pins that I have collected from him over the years from the FHCBGT events. One is in my hat that I wear daily. I will miss the trombone solo sounding off at whim while on H-Dock during our annual events. He brought much joy and laughter to everyone docked at Friday Harbor in those solo broadcasts. During this year's event, he offered an award prize to be given out for the game contest. One thing for sure, he went out doing what he probably loved much which is something we can all hope for when that day comes. He will be missed by many and I offer my condolences to his family if watching. _________________ Gary F

We sure will miss Roger. He loved to talk C-Dory and fishing and hunting.
We loved his trombone solos, playing taps at sunset at the FHCBGTs.
We were sitting on the porch of the Turn Point light station keeper's quarters on Stuart Island one July day in 2018 and he pulled up in his 25. Roger then proceeded to play a tune on his trombone! He was on the way to Prevost Harbor to dock and be a docent at the light station for a week.
Our condolences to Roger's wife Cheryl and the rest of the family. _________________ Patrick and Kim Walker

Loved talking to Roger and Cheryl at FH gatherings. We shared a couple of drinks with him on the dock at Conover Cove after a FH gathering one year. Still got the potato pin he gave us.

I never met Roger, but we were both of Finnish extraction and so would occasionally share holiday greetings and salutations. I’m sorry to hear of his passing.

We met Roger and Cheryl the first time at the 2014 Pender Harbor CBGT, then again at the 2017 Powell River CBGT. Of course, we have potato pins from both occasions. Thank you Roger for just being you....

Dang, sorry to read about Roger's passing. We went to our first FHCBGT last year and my 8yo daughter lit up when Roger gave her a potato pin. He really made a great impression representing "the boat people".
Rest in peace, Roger. And condolences to his family.

So sorry to see Roger pass. Loved talking to him about hunting fishing boating and politics. Many times we talked about hunting together in the fall when I visit my inlaws. Sorry that I will not be able to do that now. I cant think of to many better was to go but out doors. Will not miss the early morning trombone. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

Thank you for posting Roger's obituary. On Saturday we stopped by his C-Dory and placed some flowers along with his picture on the bow. Probably won't last because of the freezing weather but wanted to remember him. He'd phone us on our birthday(s) and for me he'd play "Oh, Canada" on his trombone. What a guy! RIP Roger!

Thats tough news to hear, but we carry memories of that smile and welcoming attitude for sure. Still have pins for our boating nametags and wish the family the best. His last moments being outside in the open air is an enviable detail in our book.
Best wishes,

A good friend and fellow C-BRAT called me this morning to see if I had seen the post about Roger. I had not. (It has been way to long since I have been on the site – but that’s a story for another time.) I thanked him and said I would look it up.
I remember the first time I met Roger, It was at Friday Harbor, and just a few minutes after he had played Oh Canada on his trombone. Loved that rich baritone wafting across the waters playing one of my favorite songs. I had to go find who, and why, he was playing that. I met Roger. I grew up in Canada, and we both had a soft spot in our hearts for our Northerly neighbors. We both had roots in North Dakota, both Veterans and both loved our boats and spent hours in canoes so we had plenty of things to talk about. Turned out, when he sold his 22 and the new buyer didn’t want the trailer, I got his trailer (Through Marty at Kitsap Marina), and I’m still using it, with a few upgrades, it will last me for a long time --- because he took care of it originally.
We had many good visits, and he was always the consummate host, no mater where we were, generally on the water somewhere, including at his place on the river. I will miss seeing him around, and miss Taps and the Trombone serenades.
RIP Roger, my condolences to Cheryl and the family.
Harvey
