I've read with interest the threads of Gelcoat touchup, repainting, etc, but I only have a couple of spots of concern. These are on the stern underneath the rear cleats.

My slip is subject to tides that vary as much as four feet and every so often winds from the north make it quite rough. I use Tidemniders (as the docks are fixed, not floating) but there is still some rub wear underneath the lines.

If I simply recoat the Gelcoat it won't be long until it runs away again. Is there a tape or other material that can provide better protection? This area will get rubbed by the line (I've tried all sorts of methods and it doesn't matter -- the line will go down from the stern cleat to the piling).

I have the lengths of firehose material but that seems like it will delay the wear but still wear, as there will be the firehose fabric rubbing instead of the line.

I have used firehose in the issues which you have. The best "solution' is to use 1/4 round hollow back SS rib strips. These are available at West Marine. I put them on the extra bow cleats I put on most of my C Dory's.

Not sure how much area you need to cover, and how you could trim and position around cleat? NoWear Guard is what we have used to protect from chafe for sailboat lines. It has a strong adhesive backing and is made from SS so it will last for years

I think this is the answer! The rub wear spot is about 4 inches wide on either aft cleat. I ordered 4 6" NoWear guards and plan to apply them as soon as they arrive!
