|
|
Hello all, have had something that has just come up on our Tomcat Honda 150 port motor. Found that there is oil in the air box, so there is a drain tube at the bottom of the air box and I have some oil coming out of tube. A little more when tilted up. My mechanic believes this is from blow by from cylinders but he’s not sure. Has anyone experienced this issue with Honda motors or have a theory?

If you didn't poor it in the air box it must be blow by. Wrong prop (lugging) or mostly low speed operation can/will cause this.
Go get some Yamaha Ring Free and follow directions. THEN Change your oil & keep an eye on it.
Good luck & let us know. |

Tsturm, thank you for your response, it’s interesting you mention the wrong prop can cause. So, when I bought the boat the previous owner had changed the 3 blade Honda props with 4 blades. I liked the 4 due to lift out of hole and on plane at lower rpm’s. But, I had heard that 150’s struggle with the heavier 4 blades? Wondering if I should put the 3 blades back on and check results? |

As long as the prop chosen will make the suggested wide open throttle rpm (whatever the manual says 6000 rpm?) it's the correct one.
My Suzi is 6200rpm. |

I'm reluctant on the blow by theory - unless your boat is blowing out clouds of light blue smoke most of the time. What does your PCV chamber look like? If it's full of oil as well, then ok I'm buying it. If it's not, then you can rule blow by out and start searching somewhere else. |
