I would concentrate on the living conditions, especially the bed and the head. Can you deal with a V-berth without standing room or sitting head room? If so, go C-Dory, if not, go Rosborough. I found the C-Dory berth too claustrophobic and had to sleep on the converted dinette, but that was the only negative for me and we liked much about our C-Dory, and greatly preferred the separate enclosed head on the C-25 to the "right next to the bed" of the Rossie.
Decide which tradeoffs matter to you and yours. _________________ Bill & Sherry C-25 sold 2020, next? |

Well, we DID the Great Loop on a CD25 Cruiser over eight months in 2017 with a dog and a cat. It was perfect for us.
We had opened up the vee-berth, had the factory delete the marine head and installed a composting head ourselves.
We had full canvas that made the cockpit an additional room.
We also had 200 watts of solar on the roof. Our dinghy was a 12 foot Sea Eagle inflatable kayak that was used twice
daily for getting our dog Baxter to shore, and for getting ourselves to shore a few times.
I blogged daily if you want a first hand account of Looping in a 25 foot boat. The link to the blog is in my signature

Rossies can have a cabin configuration with an enclosed head in the back of the main cabin a la the CD-25.

Rossies come in 3 cabin configurations.

Bshillam,
Thanks for comments from a multi boat owner.
Do you still have the RF246?
Choose the boat that makes you smile at the end of the day!
Great Quote! |

Soooooooo,
If you have something to add, please do, I’m fixing to drop some money, & though both hold their value well, it does cost a bit to trade around. Heck, just the registration fees are pretty hefty.
For me it all boils down to...
I prefer the head/shower on the CD, it’s lighter weight & draft.
But I much prefer the side doors & Cabin roominess & not being as subjected to pounding at cruising speed on the Rossie.
I am very grateful for your input & time. Always looking to learn more. Please feel free to add anything. |

BTDT. Loved both.
I think the important differences have been covered.
You have to learn the characteristics of each boat (and there are some differences).
Only thing I would add is that an RF 246 with full hull extension is the l longest 25 ft you will ever see. You may need 30 ft of linear dock.
Twin 150's recommended and big tabs.

There's one more tradeoff: cost. One can buy a C-Dory 25 used, though it'll take work and time. How are Rosebourghs used? Is there a place where there advertised? That's not been mentioned.
And how about the cost difference between the two, new. No idea what the C-Dory's are selling for these days, or the delivery. Even less about the Rosebourgh.

I had a RF246, and I repowered it from 175hp to a 250hp. Night and day benefit, really makes the boat have a chance to get up and go ( when desired). With a full keel, the stability at rest was GREAT. Did not feel like a cork. Side doors were WONDERFUL, loved them. Interior space and layout, so much better than the C-dory. Can stand in the V-berth area, I'm 6'4". The dinette is very spacious. Kitchen counter length Very Nice, and the storage under SUPER.
Negative you need a strong 3/4 ton truck or 1 ton would be better. It is heavy and tall on the trailer. If most of your time is on the water, less on the trailer moving it around. Then I would choose the Rossi 100% NO QUESTION. |

The Rossi E-mail forum has become much more active in the last several years. Of course they are always knocking C Dorys (with a lot of mis-information). They have begun to have gatherings on a regular basis, but mostly on the East Coast. I would guess that the majority of the Rossi's are sold thru this forum. They run about the same as the c Dory 25--but there are a lot variables, such as older low side, with deep keel, which don't seem to do well at planing speeds. There are diesel I/O boats--there are hull extensions, and brackets. Some extend the roof over the cockpit.
I have friends with Rossi's and we considered them a number of years back. For our purpose the C Dory was a better fit. Since I am (was) 6'2", I would have to have extended the V berth bunk to have enough room. For what ever reason I seemed to have issues getting in and out of the doors--and found the windows of the C dory to be as functional.
Both are good boats, but there are features of both which work for some and not for others. _________________ Bob Austin
