I don't know about SunPass but for EZ-Pass you need to request a different transponder for use when towing. EZ-Pass toll booths are supposed to be able to automatically tell whether you are towing something or not by counting the axles. However, this does not work in all locations.
As a result I have two transponders, one for normal use and one for use when towing. Just need to remember to put the correct one up.
With EZ-Pass they say it takes two weeks to get a transponder sent to you so you can't get it at the last minute. |

I've got the Illinois Ipass, which also works in EZ-Pass locations I believe. (Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania). I've used it in the F150 or Highlander not towing, and also with the trailer in tow. Has worked flawlessly in IL, IN, OH and PA. But haven't tried it in Florida. Colby |

John, Thank you for a very informative post. This one is getting filed away for 22-23 season. Great help.
Toll booths -- YUK, Toll fees -- YUK. 1 year out to make reservations, YIKES. Does that sound like they won't even take you long enough to go into town for groceries? Most of the time the dinghies at that dock are the same size as my boat.

Harvey,
Come visit Florida!
You DON’T have to favor the 5-star marina resorts we like, and there are many other options. A bit further up river it’s only $15 a night with a Federal Park Geezer Pass, and forgive me if I assume you have one too.
https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/233661
There are lots of options including anchoring out in some beautiful areas, here we were last year at Cayo Costa Island State Park (our 2022 Brat Calendar photo).
I regard James on Molly Brown to be a local with current expert knowledge on anchoring out, as they did all around Florida last year before ending up at the Hontoon hoot. PM him when you firm up your plans, they found some awesome spots.
For EZ pass in New York (I-90) I just changed the plate number to the trailer on their website and it worked this summer on the West Erie adventure. For SunPass, I used the trailer plate and checked the ‘trailer’ box.
Happy Cruising!

Thanks John, I like 5 stars too, there's Morning Start, V-Star, Royal Star, North Star, Road Star and a few others, And I do like $15.00 too. On my northern trips I usually hit a marina once in about a week or so, mostly driven by need for fuel and water and an occasional "real" shower. I carry almost all of my food onboard.
Oh, and Toll Roads. YIKES, I am NOT a fan there.

Gary, That is one interesting versions. I have seen that one up at Roche Harbor, and got one shot off, but not very good. Glad you got to talk to the owner.

Well, not exactly today, but over the last week I have upgraded some Raymarine electronics, and got to spend some time on a perfectly placid Columbia River, right next to PDX. After 4 hours covering about a mile or so, I didn't find any pirate chest berried on the bottom, but then, Marty said that they have checked out that section pretty thoroughly already.
As Expected, and up to their usual high standards, Rodger's Marine Electronics did an excellent installation. It is a class act there.
So now I have a bit of a learning curve to climb, but it should be fun. Another great excuse to burn up last years gas We replaced the plotter to Axium, the radar to doppler and the sounder to a whole new set of views. Can't wait to get it all learned.

This week we're having our annual February Santana winds. Anaheim was 85° yesterday. Saturday was a Chamber of Commerce day in Southern California. We enjoyed a cloudless blue sky with temperatures in the 70s as we motored over a glassy sea toward Torrance Reef. I told Merry Passage that we should send some of this sunshine up to our friends in Washington.
Visibility at Torrance Reef was about twelve feet, not what we expected with the nice surface visibility. I moved the anchor in the wrong direction and ended up at a section of reef that did not have much life.
We made a second dive at Golf Ball Reef, just a half-mile away. What a difference. Forty feet visibility and lots of mating and egg-laying on the reef. Berthella californica were everywhere. I found a mating pair near a ribbon of older eggs. Lots of babies on the way.

Did you see the six gill sharks? They frequent the area close to the Aquarium.

I think they only come in during the summer. We were looking for Lumpies. In three weeks there, we only saw two.
I finally got a decent photo of a Grunt Sculpin.

Osprey was misfiring, last time out... Yesterday, pulled coils and plugs. lower plug on starboard side was fouled, with rust on the last few threads.
Not good!
Took boat off of lift today and put on trailer. Have an appointment with a Honda shop on 2/16. Hoping a new outboard is not in my immediate future. _________________ Steve Baum
