One review I found said 58.4 lbs - so a little more than the 2000/2200.

That is slick! Anyone found an estimate of the price?

Also, what does 3.2 kva provide in watts for comparison to the older models at 2200 watts (or my older yet EU2000). The kva to kw calculators I found ask for a power factor. It's late so I am asking the smart people rather than research it further.

Thanks for the post about the new generator and thanks to the smart people who are not going to let me down!

Maximum 3200 watts.
I heard a guess of about $2200

Is the plain old Honda 2000 not fillable while running? I know I have during power outages but maybe I shouldn't have?

I may have to put my old Honda on FB marketplace and get one of these new ones

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't refill any of them while running.

DEFINITELY NOT. I was surprised to see that in print on the one website, although don't remember if it was an official Honda website. Pouring gas from a plastic container is dangerous on so many levels - from static sparks to fume accumulation. A running engine which may not be ignition protected poses a further risk of spark ignition of fumes. A HOT engine raises the risk of fume ignition. Pouring gas from a plastic ungrounded container into a hot running engine on a boat is a disaster waiting to happen.

About 10 years ago a close friend of mine was severely burned in a flash fire while refuelling his lawn mower. He owns a marina and the wooden boat pictured in my album. Around the same time there was a class action lawsuit involving fires and gas cans.

The generator does look interesting although I doubt it will be cheap. I always found Honda's easy to start but the FI may help with fuel economy.
I suspect it will need a small battery or some type of condensor type coil to store some power for the FI on startup. Will also use some of the power it generates while running.

Will be interesting to see one when they arrive here.

Regards,

Rob

IMHO, this KVA designation is just a marketing ploy.

KVA just means volts times amps divided by 1000. Watts is also volts times amps. So mathematically 1 KVA = 1000 watts. However, the electric industry uses KVA and watts in a special way. All systems are subject to inefficiencies; so they use something they call the "power factor" to indicate that not all the power of a system is useable. In the industry they use KVA to mean power in a perfect world, and watts to mean the power available in the real world......even though scientifically 1 KVA = 1000 watts.

I don't know what the power factor is for Honda generators, I'll guess 0.8. In that case a 3.2 KVA generator would produce 2560 watts (compared to 2000 and 2200 watts for their older models). 3.2 KVA sounds like maybe 3200 watts......so....good for marketing.

P.S. I suspect the "fill while running" refers to the silly little "catch rim" around the fill cap and the tiny "spillway" that presumably allows spilled gas to not pour over the outlets (see OP's photo). Another marketing ploy as far as I'm concerned. I ain't filling any generator on a boat while it's running!!
