Hey-

Earlier this summer, I stumbled into a switch on the aft port side of our cabin exterior wall. (Cape Cruiser 26'/2007).

Through trial/error, I can find nothing that this switch seems to activate or turn-off.. and I have no idea what the initial function may have been. Given that the wiring is between the walls, etc.. I can't really reverse engineer it.. but may well put this to good use.. if I knew what it was going to.

Any thoughts or theories?

Thanks-- Jeff

Any sign of cockpit or exterior/docking light?

Whether or not the lights were ever installed, that switch (there might be on on the starboard side as well) is probably for a string of lights under the cockpit gunnels. It is designed to allow for turning on low lighting of the cockpit sole, especially when boarding the boat at night. You can reach the switch from the dock. I actually rarely used mine, but it was kind of cool. If you search the site you will find at least one other thread on this subject.

Thanks.. and I'll review.

Yes, we have string lights under the cockpit gunnels.. and they seem to operate directly from the 'Deck Lights' main switch on the dashboard. Perhaps the localized switch option was by-passed by the previous owner.

Thanks.. and not sure quite what to do about any forward use.. since I'm not sure the discreet switch is that big a deal in our case.

Appreciate your inputs and, again, I'll try to find that other thread.

Jeff

I have that switch on my 26. It allows you to turn on the LED lights, under the aft cockpit. The master light switch for these lights, is on the dash.

Ah.So you can board the boat at night from either side and access the light switch without leaving the lights on all the time! Smart thinking by the designer.
