My brother was talking to Billy at his museum around August 10th or so. Hopefully he is still alive. Very interesting person.

Good to hear, you can't believe everything you hear from other boaters at an anchorage. Hopefully we can visit his museum on our next cruise up here.

Sea Harmony Love that name, the play on words for letters, and it is even cooler to know the story behind it. (The owners met on E-harmony - a dating website, and both enjoyed boating.) I guess it worked for them and I believe they live up there now.

Telegraph Cove is a great place to launch and see that area, and even for long term it was reasonable with good security. chipwagon did you see any Orca in the area while you were there? It is usually a great place to se them occasionally.

We spent 15 days this year and saw the orcas on 5 of those days. The orcas are always moving around QCS / Johnstone Strait / Blackfish Sound. A good tip I received is you can monitor channel 7 in this area to listen to the whale watching boats if you're looking to locate them. And of course the humpback were always there in good numbers every single day. One day we were bottom fishing in thick fog out off White Cliff Island and could hear but not see the humpback breaching--huge BOOM when they were impacting the water.

That is what I was referring to here.

I have stopped to see Billie every trip up. He has always been pretty robust but he is also getting older. I was anchored over in Shoal Harbor one time and Billie came in in his little blue runabout to check on the salmon at the river mouth. I had been over to see him the day before, and after he finished his checking, he came over to chat for a while. He stayed for nearly an hour just telling story after story about his hand logging life mostly.

Hope he is still there when I go back next year.

Raven is headed north on the trailer from Washington this week to Port Hardy. We plan to spend most of September on Balaklava Island, if anyone is in the area please stop by. Our mooring is about 0.5 nm due south of Scarlett Point Lighthouse.

Apologies if this has been listed here before but I would thoroughly recommend 3 books by Billy Proctor (and Alexandra Morton)

"Heart of the Raincoast" Alexandra Morton and Billy Proctor which effectively tells his life story and leads you to the present day works of Alexandra to restore the Pacific Salmon and its habitat.

"Tide Rips and back Eddies." By Billy.

"Full Moon, Flood Tide" By Billy.

They are all currently available from a number of outlets.

It has been many moons since we last met with Billy but as Harvey has said, it is an unforgettable experience. Glad to hear that he is still around.

Alexandra is an extremely effective activist and her works are well worth the read on social media.
