Suggestions for puget sound stops

So here I sit this morning combing over the Navionics chart. Decided due to waves I don’t think I want to go around the outside of Whidbey. 2-4s all week with the exception of a few windows. I’d really like to have a great ride, yesterday we tried and got into the thick of the fog which typically wouldn’t be a deal but is with radar. So we turned around and headed toward slow Mystery Bay and found a nice inside slip.

Thinking of our next stop, I’d love to find a couple of stops and stay a few days at each. Little cute down down maybe, get some fresh bread mixed with another state park maybe. I’d like to cruise for now more than an hour to hour and half (ish) give or take.

I’d love to end up in an area similar to La Conner but don’t know if I want to go quite that far.

Any other suggestions for stops? It’s an adventure as I haven’t cruised this water before just North of Mystery/Islands. [/list]

So I dont know where you are . Mystery Island is a mystery to me. But if you are headed to La Conner, which is a great stop in and of itself, You might want to head to Langley. One of our favorite day trips. Nice docks with a breaker wall to stay the night and a really cute small town with shop. The seafood Italian place ( or is it Greek ) above main street was always great food. If you are coming up the sound the Kingston marina is a good stop. Not much there but well protected and nice dock near the ferry docks. Good place to park the boat and take the walk on ferry to Edmonds and visit there down town area. The Edmonds marina has some transit dock space and fuel if you are coming up that side of the sound but with the train tracks right there its noises, too much for me to sleep there. If the weather does clear then port Townsend is really nice with restaurants and shops. wooden boat center, and just great views. Everett has a great transit moorage and a few restaurants but town is to far a way to walk to and nothing worth seeing unless you like homeless and traffic. but its a good place to stop . La Conner is not much farther so I would go there instead unless you need fuel and a pump out, then Everett is worth it. Hell if you get to Everett call me and we will drive over and meet you for dinner.

The place in Langley that Tom is referring to is the Saltwater Fish house & Oyster Bar and is right next to Prima Bistro (Which is an upstairs deck owned by the same people.) Both are excellent.

Coupeville also has a wharf and a number of great shops and restaurants. They have a great bakery called Little Red Hen right on Front street which is owned by the Oystercatcher restaurant which is 1/2 a block away. Also Tobey's tavern and Front Street grill and don't miss KAPAWS ISKREME.

After that you are only a short trip from La Conner plus a ride up the canal to Anacortes or out Deception pass if you are in need of excitement to digest all of that good food.

In Kingston, up the hill from the ferry landing and on the right side of the street is a place with Red umbrellas and great food. Don't know the name, sorry. If just poking around and like a bit of a navigational challenge, check out Mats Mats Bay. (Use the Range markers.) Don't stay at the park dock through a full tide cycle, it dries at low tide.

Looks like it’s going to be cooler over the next few days. Thinking about pulling the boat to head to warmer weather/inland away from the coast. Anyone dropped into lake cushman? Might head back to Portland and finish out our vacation at Beacon.

If you haven't been on the Lower Columbia, check out Kalama. A good launch, interesting river area and fun water traffic, and easy access off I-5.
