The C Dory factory reps need to follow the C-Brats thread. Re-aligning the motors with the rear starboard switch. Their factory website Gallery of our beloved TomCat has a shot of twin 175 Suzies totally out of alignment. Really? |

I didn't look on the site, but my bet would be those engines are rigged with joystick controls and the boat is moving sideways to the dock or some cool trick like that. We haven't been to a boat show in years, but that's what they look like. If anyone wants to bet a fill-up of E0 gas, you'd only lose about $630.
On edit, I notice the Optimus label. But you can still bet!
Cheers!

Does not look like, based on the pic, that there is a fuel dock within tens of miles. |

Amazing, but I would love to see this system demonstrated in the Wrangell Narrows at full flood current with a stiff cross wind. _________________ Bill, Formerly on NORO LIM

Bill,
I believe Optimus 360 (SeaStar) only advertises this system as a DOCKING assist, not total joystick control like a Volvo IPS system.
You wouldn't use it at that Narrows.
Today on leaving my marina my Yamahas were WAY out of alignment, in a stiff wind in a very narrow marina fairway, and I scraped some cowling paint on a piling trying to get out of there. In our view, such comic cosmetic misadventures just add character to our boat and our experiences on her, and a can of non OEM Yamaha touch up paint is $20.
Your mileage may differ... a LOT!
Cheers!

Good eye John! The Optimus 360 costs in the $18,000 range additional--Only installed by very few specialists. There was a "skyhook" more recently a SeaStation, option (more $$??) for spot positioning using multiple GPS units....
Over my pay grade. I remember one prospective buyer posting about it a while back.
If you win the lottery and still stick with C Dory--it would be a great feature. But it does seem to use a lot of power to do what can be done with a little touch of the throttles--like John does... _________________ Bob Austin

Oh, I wasn't imagining anything other than using it to assist in getting me undamaged to the fuel dock or a slip in Petersburg Harbor. Every dock for the 20 miles of the Narrows is subject to daily substantial or even extreme currents and to frequent winds.
Seems like a lot of money to spend on a system if it could not assist me with exactly the kind of docking I really could use some help with!
I know what you mean about cosmetic misadventures. And I always tried to choose a piling rather than someone else's boat if a ricochet maneuver was called for.

Yes, it is interesting to watch some of the new joystick control systems in action. Especially when there are 3 or 4 engines involved. All of them moving and pointing in different directions. Some in forward and some in reverse.
I inquired about putting such a system on my 22 a few years ago. At the time I was told that it didn't work for engines less than 200hp. |
