I feel a little weird asking this question, but how the heck do you get the fuses out of this thing if you need to replace one or whatever?
I've tried pushing, pulling, looking behind the panel, etc. I don't want to force or break anything so I figured I'd ask.

There are 2 little bumps on either side of the square FUSE thing. Use a knife blade or jewelers screw driver to GENTLY pry the RED Fuse cover out. You will probably break the little tabs, I would replace the whole thing |

Mine have a tiny slot on the black plastic at the top of the red plastic (maybe also on the bottom, I've never looked). Pushing in this slot with the right size tool (jeweler's screwdriver works) makes the red plastic pop out with the fuse.
These panels are routinely over fused. I think SeaDog lists them as 10A max. Mine had both 15 and 20A fuses, apparently without proplems (yet). I had to pull them all out to inspect so had plenty of practice popping out the fuses. I made new labels that included the fuse size (i.e., "VHF 3A") to make replacement easier. When the fuse blows, the lighted switch goes out, making it easy to see which one is the problem, but still a pain to pop that little fuse holder open.

Thanks both of you... I'll take a closer look next time I'm out there. It's 30 years old, so I agree with the possibility of something plastic breaking. I have looked at possible replacements from Blue Sea and elsewhere, and may end up doing that. Of course, it has to be a pretty small panel to fit in the same spot.
Even the newer Sea Dog units seem to be better with circuit breakers instead of fuses. |

On the left side of the fuse cover is a small hole .... stick something pointy in there a it will pop out.

I have these and yes a knife tip works well. HOLD YOUR HAND OVER THE RED PART OR GET READY TO CHASE DOWN THE SPRING. Ask me how I know.... _________________ Thomas J Elliott

Got it figured out, thanks everyone. I'm good for now. I wouldn't mind finding a more modern replacement with LED lights and so on, but it's not going to be high on my list. Overall, this thing seems to be in pretty good shape. |

By the way, if you lose the mast light cap, the screw cover from a small propane canister fits perfectly. _________________ MartyP
