Maybe it's just me, or maybe something's changed.......

When I go on this site, I use the "View posts since last visit" link. This lists all threads that have a new post since my last visit. For each thread on that list, I click on the little orange square, and the system takes me directly to the 1st post that I have not yet read. In the past, I would be taken to that "next message" almost instantly; now, once I hit that little orange square, I am shown the beginning of the entire thread for a time (i.e., the very first message in that thread); and then after a few seconds, I am finally taken to that 1st unread message.

This is results in a much slower process than before. Did something happen? Am I screwed up? Is the system just overloaded?

I click on the link in the middle of the page listing the new posts. This will take me to that page. If a thread has more than one page, they are listed below the thread title link. I can click on whichever of the available pages you want. Clicking on the link takes me to the top of the selected page, then I scroll down to the first post I haven't read (or don't remember). AFAIK, this site has always worked this way.

There are forums on other sites that will take you to the first unread posting, but this site doesn't do that.

The icon in the left most column seems just to be an indicator that new posts have been posted. Clicking on it doesn't take me anywhere.

I usually access the forum page via the 24hr option. After a look around I access old(already viewed) threads via the little white square to the right of the arrow to the right of the last posters name. This takes me to the last post where I scroll up until I recognize a post already seen then continue scrolling down.

Might be an easier way but it works for me.

Rob

It does for me. That's exactly what the "View posts since last visit" link does. I find that link at the top of the home page just to the right of the "Search" link.

Yes, I use this feature and it shows a list of threads which have new posts. However, clicking on a thread shown the list takes me to the first page in that thread, not the latest posting (which I think the OP was getting at). For threads that have multiple pages of postings, there will be a list individual links for each page shown below the thread title.

I always go to the "View Posts Since Last Visit" button, and then click on the last page in the thread. THEN it does take a while, the circle spins, and spins and spins and then . . . C-BRATS happen.

Between posts or changing thread the circle spins and spins and spins. Often I will go to the up top "Back" arrows, and click back and the forward arrow and then the new thread opens. Doesn't seem to change whether I'm on early, mid or late times.

My download speeds remain the same, close, no matter which time I am on the computer.

I believe you need to click on the little yellow/orange box. At least that's how it works for me. That takes you to the last post in the thread.

Thru the years there have been some times the C Brat site has been slow, or even not available. I don't see any real difference in speed now.

Occasionally I can attribute that to our local internet being impacted. But at other times it is not. Then. I assume that it is the server which hosts the site.

I go to "View posts since Last Visit" and then check the box. Seems to be about the same as usual currently.

I never noticed the little yellow box was an active link. I just thought it was for decoration. Wouldn't hurt if it was a bit bigger.

There are actually two little boxes that will take you to the same place. In the far right column on the "View posts since Last Visit" page appears the name of the last poster. Next to that name is another little box. That one works, too. Both boxes have a bold black arrow pointing to them. (I think the "boxes" are actually little paper page symbols with one corner folded down.)

Just to close the loop on the initial issue I raised of the C-Brats website slowing down.......

Turns out it was MY system. I have just recently discovered that my browser (Chrome) was heavily infected by adware. I am very careful about my system not getting infected, but there are some websites that apparently add permanent notifications and such if you click on some photo or whatever (even accidentally). In my case the straw that broke the camel's back was when I clicked on a button that asked, as happens during many sign-ons, that I was not a robot. I finally used a tool to rid Chrome of this adware, and C-Brats is back to its old snappy self.

BTW, 2 tools I found to be very useful (both have free versions) are: Malwarebytes to scan your entire system for malware; and Adblock Plus a browser extension to control/remove nasty adware.

I have used Adblock Plus for years. There is also video autoplay blocker.

One thing I have found is that sometimes there is a site that does not work with all the Chrome extensions. So, I have a different browser without all that stuff for use in those situations.

Can you tell me the name of the Chrome extension you are using to do this. My searches don't seem to come up with much. Thanks.

Thanks ssobol. It's now installed.

I can't imagine why I didn't find this in my searches.....I must have included, or not included, some key word.
