I don’t do a blog, however as some may know, I do share my written accounts & videos of our extended SE Alaska cruises here in the Grand Adventure Forum. On our trips & other places, I’m often asked if I do a blog & answer no, but I do share write ups on the C-Brats web site within the Grand Adventure Forum. That can be a bit confusing to find for a new comer or anyone else sifting through the Grand Adventure Forum, especially at present with the pages it has grown into over the years & my reports spread out throughout these pages. So thinking it my be helpful, I’ve condensed the links to those trips here. Starting with the last in 2018 & ending with our 1st in a C-Dory in 2003. These account for over 12,000 miles of cruising with many of these in the more remote areas of SE Alaska, Northern British Columbia & the Yukon.
If the vaccines work & the borders open back up, We hope to add another trip in 2021.

Thanks Ken, I was hoping to see you at Yellowstone Lake last summer. Maybe next year after our return from SE Alaska if we get to go. And thank you too Harvey, as it’s always good to get a post from you with all your contributions to this site, an inspiration for all.

Bill, yes not official winter here, but if going by temperature around zero, it’s here. This aggregation makes it easier for me too, as I read these every winter & sometimes twice to bring back the good memories. Also about a month before going on another SE Alaska cruise, I read them again to refresh my memories about the area to prevent repetition of past mistakes & what worked out for the best.
Not a bad idea for you, Jody & Mike to do similar. It should help to see what you all are getting yourselves into.
I think we all are keeping our fingers crossed that the border will open in time. With the vaccines under way, I think we stand a good chance.
For those wondering what’s up with us. Jody & boat CD22 Voyager, Bill & 23 Ranger Mystery Girl, Mike, & CD22 Little Joe & Jolee I if she’s able have been planning for quite some time to make a 2 month cruise together out of Skagway, Alaska. COVID stopped us last May & now hoping it won’t this coming May. Four boats are actually already two to many for parts of this trip & in some areas we will most likely be making some tough adjustments, but we all know each other pretty well & I think this can be done with a Grand Adventure for all. This will be our ninth cruise in these waters & I’m really looking forward to sharing the highlights of this area with an experienced independent group.

Thanks for you links on the Alaska cruising I will look these over on the cold winter days that we are sure to experience here soon on the northern plains. I have enjoyed many of your posts in the past.
We are planning to stay in Canada with the closed borders for probably the next year for sure and then see how things go. Our cruising plans next June take us into the area around Prince Rupert and Kitimat on the Northern BC coast next spring. I am not counting on the border opening until next fall and even when that happens, I will probably wait and see before I go anywhere too far from Canada.
If you are planning to cruise in Alaska next year you might be lucky and have the borders open in May, but I would make a plan B. Canada is currently in the second wave and it is hitting us hard in certain areas, but still well below the US. The government is starting to announce vaccination plans, which are to start with the most critical people in early January. The plan is to vaccinate front line workers, those in long term care, those over 80 and first nations over 65 in the first quarter of the year. This is 3 million of our 38 million people. Then they will start vaccinating people on a risk basis in the second quarter and the average middle aged person by summer. I heard one specialist say that if everything runs like a Swiss watch, we might have the whole population vaccinated by this time next year. Opening the border would be contingent on both the US and Canada having this virus under control and that might take at least 50% of both our populations vaccinated before it might be safe to open the border. There might be exemptions made for those who can prove vaccination at some point.
I was wondering about the logistics of shipping your boat on a barge from Seattle and then flying directly to Alaska. I know this would be expensive and a logistical nightmare, but it might allow you to avoiding travel through Canada, before the borders reopen.

Peter & Judy, I really appreciate your sharing of insight on whether my hopes are actually realistic. It doesn’t seem they are & sad for me to hear. For me no other cruising area has the draw of SE Alaska, your suggested alternative route again appreciated, but not an option for me. I will continue to plan now more realistically with also working on a plan B of other areas.
We cruised out of Prince Rupert in 2004 & liked the area with just preferring the area from Petersburg, Alaska to Skagway even more with the road trip through your beautiful country an added bonus. You still have a great option to cruise this coming year. If just Alaska was closed & we could go where you are planning, we would go there without hesitation. Reading through the accounts of our cruises just north of there may help you in some ways prepare if you haven’t done this type of cruise before. There are many similarities in these two areas. I wish you both a wonderful spring/summer cruise.
