So I'm picking up a brand new double axle trailer from 3 rivers Marine in Crystal River this weekend. Very excited.
This leaves me with our 2007 model year Load Rite single axle trailer. It's galvanized, tires are only a few years old. It's been reliable up and down the coast from central Florida to North Carolina, and never has left me stranded. I just wanted a shiny new double axle for longer towing adventures. We don't have room for it, and would like it gone. Clean title. Free to a good home. Oh it needs a new winch strap BTW. _________________ 2007 22 cruiser sold 10/2021

Well, I wouldn't mind having a bunk trailer instead of my roller trailer but that's a bit of a drive. I'm sure someone will snap it up in no time though. |

I dealing right now with the bunk vs roller decision. Can I ask you why you prefer the bunk over the roller? _________________ Sandy McKean

I had a roller trailer on our first c-dory (King double axle). It was great, but did require a bit more maintenance. I replaced a few of the rollers while I owned it. I even had one or two pop off while going down the highway. I've also been told they aren't as supportive for the bottom of the hull, although we never had any problems with ours. That's a downside worth mentioning.
This time I didn't have a choice. There is a covid related trailer shortage right now, and we were given an estimated date of at least 4 months out. Float-on already had a shipment headed towards my c-dory dealer and they were able to sneak an extra c-dory spec'd bunk trailer onto the load and I wouldn't have to wait. I'm impatient so I went with the bunks again. Brianna is disappointed, she wanted the roller trailer as it's much easier to launch and retrieve in our experience. |

I had a roller trail on an old boat. straps broke and the boat ROLLED off the trailer. Now I only have bunk trailers. I see no advantage to a rollers trailer. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

That happened to you too huh? Happened to me in Yelm, blocked the entire road. The straps and safety chain broke. I block that memory out it was pretty bad. There’s a pic of the disaster in my album. |

I'm probably just biased because I've always had bunk trailers and never had an issue with them. Aside from maintaining the hubs/bearings, and maybe replacing bunk carpet once in awhile, there just wasn't a whole lot to do.
What I don't like about our current roller trailer is all the moving parts. There's little plastic cushion thingy's where the roller assemblies attach/bolt/pivot to the main trailer mounts, which seem to break pretty easy. Also, when we were bringing the boat home from Ohio last year we actually had one of the rear 8 wheel roller assemblies fall off the trailer after launching due to 2 broken bolts. It bounced right off the trailer when I went to park.
We're also at the point where all the rollers need to be replaced. Granted, our trailer is 31 years old so I guess it's to be expected by now. At roughly $45 for a set of 4 rollers, and needing 6 sets, I'll be converting it to bunks instead of replacing the rollers when I get around to doing it.
Plus, I like that you can get the boat to sit a lot lower on the trailer with a bunk setup. I think I'll be able to drop our boat about 5" on the trailer with a bunk conversion. On a shallow ramp like the one we used at Havasu I have a felling the boat will float off the trailer a lot sooner/shallower than the roller setup.
Lower CG is a good thing too. |

Yup!!, I lowered my Bunks about 3 inches, and it really maks a difference, in lots of ways.
