If you want a relaxing weekend of reading a book in the cockpit of your C-Dory, don't visit a busy marina. This was our second weekend staying downtown in Annapolis at the City Marina and I think our C-Dory gets even more attention than the mega yachts. Everyone wants to know what this cool little boat is. I think we should be the new East Coast reps for C-Dory because we probably sold a few of them this weekend. But I didn't get through my book. |

Curioustraveler,
This is the walk of shame, of owning a unique boat. WhenJoan and I go to the boat ramp, to put the boat on or off the trailer, I always get someone to follow me down the dock, of someone to accompany me while loading, just to find out the details of these cool boats. _________________ Steve Baum

Last year in Desolation Sound and the Gulf Islands we had the same problem. While on anchor the guys from the big 50 foots yachts would row over to check us out and see how we can enjoy cruising in such a small boat.
The number one question was, "How much fuel does it use?' _________________ Peter & Judy Haase

We have had people who wanted us to pull off the road to take a look at the boat.
Often at fuel stops, we get questions. Many RV parks the campers are amazed that a 22 or 25 foot boat has all of the essentials that they big RV's have... _________________ Bob Austin

CDDF - Cape Dory Delay Factor
Happens a lot when we are getting gas.
C-Dorys are the archetype of boats. They appeal to everyone. _________________ "C-dory's are the 13th step in a 12 step program for sailors."Marc Grove, Wefings Marine |

N&B, We are all human, so don't choke on it, just learn
My only stop by the Coast Guard was (although not specifically stated) to take a thorough look at my 22. They kept insisting that I must be fishing, looked into every nook and cranny, asking about fishing gear, and then just before getting back onto there $$$$$$$ fast boat, the inspector said he should issue me a ticket. "For what, did you find something I should know about" I asked. His response got a bit of a smirk from on of the boarding party, "Well you have a perfect fishing boat and you don't use it to it's full capacity." Every year since then I have made sure to get my Voluntary Vessel Safety Inspection done before I start the season.
Get used to that CDDF and carry a few C-BRAT cards to pass out so they can get the "rest of the story".
Harvey

I was the cause for a CCDF (Cape Cruiser Delay Factor) for one poor guy and his wife back in Jan 2019. This was prior to us getting our C-Dory in Aug '19
We had met some friends in the Keys for a week over New Years 18/19. During a day trip to Key West I spotted what I thought was a C-Dory 22 anchored off the east side of Big Pine Key and I excitedly pointed this out to everyone in the rental mini-van. For some reason I just couldn't understand the rolling of eyes and head shakes I received in return. It's not everyday you see a C-Dory in it's native habitat. Losers!!!
Later in the day we stopped at the beach there at Bahia Honda State Park and, sure enough, here comes that C-Dory 22 into the little basin there.
As he was cruising thru the channel I noticed he had a 150 ETEC strapped to the back and thought to myself, "Well, that's too small for a 25 so that can't be a C-Dory then. Must be a Venture or Cape Cruiser".
Long story short, after I pinned the guy down asking endless questions, he and his wife invited us on board to look around, told us how much they loved the boat, ete, etc, etc... and then he told me, I was the ONLY ONE EVER to correctly ID his boat in the 15 years he had owned it.
My wife was mortified and totally embarrassed. I puffed my chest and strutted around the basin a couple of times. |
