I'm wondering if you C-Dory experts would consider a 19 Angler under-powered with a Honda 75.

Thanks.

It is not underpowered, but can take up to 90 hp. (I don't know if any of the 19's were approved for 115 hp as the 22'2 were. The 75 will not go as fast top end, and may be a little slower out of the "hole", but should plane well up into the mid 20's with a light to medium load.

Beringfisherman,
The Honda 75 and 90 are the same engine. It like other engines was detuned to allow it to be installed on boats with lower HP ratings.

My 19 came to me with a Suzuki 70. Occasionally I wish for a little bigger in a following sea but wouldn’t want the extra weight the rest of the time. I’m content with 70.

I like my E-Tec90, it's lite weight and has plenty of power even when loaded with 4 people and crab pots. It tops out at about 30 mph, but usually I run between 20 and 25 depending on how rough the water is. A 75 will probably get the job done, and usually 19's with the smaller motors can cost 3 to 5 k less than the ones with the bigger motors. if your buying take a test ride.

DavidJ,
The E-Tec will no longer be an option, as the manufacturer has decided to no longer make that line of their product.

I think not. As noted it is the same engine block as the 90.
On my 22 Cruiser, I have twin 40's, Equals 80 HP, and it is not under powered. Yes, If/when I repower it will probably be with 50's, but not if it is the costs of much extra weight.

Last week I did 27 mph with my 19 and 75hp yamaha. Plenty fast for me. I'm usually going much slower than that.
About 400# people and gear. Engine has a permatrim installed. Had about 30% down trim tabs but the engine trim was level. 5600 rpm. I've been experimenting trying to keep the bow down somewhat, mainly at lower speeds. Engine has new 15 inch pitch stainless prop. This speed was at approx 2500 feet elevation which would make some difference. Should be somewhat faster at sea level I would think.

About 3% loss of HP per 1000 feet elevation gain. So at 2500' you would lose about 7.5% hp. or just a little under 70 hp. Pretty good speed!

Thanks everyone. The 19' I had my eye on sold the first day in Sultan, WA before I even had time to view it. But now I have a better understanding of the power situation!

Solid boats that are fairly priced sell incredibly fast for sure. I'm sorry you didn't land that one.
