a 15 year old motor, I took it off Emma Mae and sold it on CL.
On July 8 I ordered a 90 hp Mercury from Bass Pro. Was told delivery would be in 5 to 7 business days. After 15 business days I called as I had not heard anything. Was told it was there. Completed purchase and took to offsite facility, owned by Bass Pro for installation. Prior to purchase I was told it would take 2 to 3 days from drop off.
7 days later they called to say they didn't have the controls. Had to order and delivery wouldn't be until 15 days later at the earliest.
I called Mercury HQ in Wisconsin. They said they had "projected" delivery dates to their warehouse, but that was a guess and subject to change. Delivery date is now August 24th
Not wanting to lose any more of the season, I started calling Bass Pro shops around the country to see if someone had the control in stock. Finally an employee of BP in Nashville, TN said she could look online to see if anyone had one! Well DUH, why didn't my place do that for me the day they found out they couldn't order one???
I contacted the store with one in stock. Fedex will deliver it tomorrow.
I will take it to Earth City, MO tomorrow. I expect them to start working on it immediately after weeks of waiting on them.
We will see.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend Bass Pro to anyone thinking about re-powering. _________________ "C-dory's are the 13th step in a 12 step program for sailors."Marc Grove, Wefings Marine |

I have thought of the "Bass Pro Shops" as the "Camping World" of the water...Sorry you have had bad experiences.... Probably a decent place to buy something, but not to have repairs or parts put on... _________________ Bob Austin

Like home depot, you don't get much for $7.50 per hr. |

I’m of the opinion that the quality of some goods has gone down hill since Bass Pro bought Cabelas. The people still seem to be helpful, but I wonder how long that will last. _________________ "And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. A lot of times in the world we live in, "corporate" gets in the way of customer service and quality. |

Yup - ordered a toilet tank and lid that was shown as being in stock. Then got a note I would be notified when it in stock. Then threw a fit and the local Home Depot found the right button to push (I gave them a picture of my screen shot) and voila, it should be here in four days rather than "We don't know if we ever will have stock on this item". They get paid $14-17.50 to start here in Kalifornia and they seem to hire the kids with the most tattoos and piercings. We used to have nice retired grandpas making a few bucks but no more, just kids waving orange flags at each other and ignoring the customers. Sad but the local long time hardware store is not able to come even close to the pricing of HD. Get her up and running, Summer is short!!

I hear ya. We used to have a master mechanic in every department. Now they don’t know the difference between a hammer and a screwdriver. Lol |

-herein lies the source of the problem. We want to have our cake (low internet-vetted prices) and eat it, too (excellent customer service). Then we "throw a fit" when we find the world doesn't work that way. I'll admit I've done this.
Any more, I swallow hard and pay the higher small-business prices. I want the small businesses to succeed. Even then, it doesn't always work out.
I have no idea if this is what's going on a Bass Pro, but it's pervasive at most box stores. |

Bud,
Another thing to consider for everyone is lack of parts inventory, because the Covid Virus... Almost everything that I have gone out to purchase has had delays because factories that make the parts had closures and delays. My Hobie Adventure Island sail replacement still is not here after 4 months of delay (Hobie sail factory closed). My much needed brake calipers for my Cape Cruiser trailer were not in stock in a very large trailer parts and repair facility near me. The parts had to be ordered from New England and then there were delays, because the manufacturer of the brake parts was closed for 3 months.
Last, about Bass Pro, I went there 2 months ago to buy fishing rod/reels for my grandkids and they were with me, because they could find the ones that they liked... Unfortunately all of the smaller saltwater spin cast systems were depleted and most common rod and reel sets were not on the shelves.
Now back to Bass Pro and other companies...They should never offer a product that they can't deliver. _________________ Steve Baum

Been shopping around for new motors the last couple of months. The common theme everywhere was to be ready to wait for delivery. Unlike all other downturns, down here in Florida anything boating or RVing is selling like hotcakes. Had one broker tell me he was down to only two boats to sell the market is so tight. In the end, I placed an order, backordered, and in the meantime having some canvas work done and tackling a few other projects on the boat and in the house while I wait. _________________

Wiring harness came today at 2 PM. At 3 PM I was at Bass Pro Service Center. Had a frank discussion with them. Asked if they had all parts. YES Asked if I could pick the boat up tomorrow by 5 PM. They laughed. I didn't. They gave me an estimate of 3 to 5 hours for installation. I told them there were 8 hours in their work day so they should have no problem it the start first thing tomorrow morning. I reminded them how long I have been waiting and having to buy my own controls from a different BP.
They said they wouldn't give me a pick up time tomorrow because S*&T happens and who knows, the brand new controls my have problems.
They said they would call at noon tomorrow and let me know the status.
Not optimistic but we will see.
Not a single "we are sorry for the lengthy delay". |

Sorry to hear about all the hassles, Bud. Our local (well, 45 minutes away) Bass Pro has given me decent service. Oh, there have been some intermittent problems that we had to work through a couple times, but I make an appointment, confirm the appointment, and have a "will be done by" time. I have dealt with dealers who want you to leave the boat and they'll get to it when they can... NOPE.
Hope they get you taken care of. Pronto. |

Picked up Emma Mae this morning.
Technician spent 45 minutes going over motor and it's operation. Very through
briefing which I appreciated. Motor immediately started, auto choke, idled very smoothly.
Also bought transom saver.
Looking forward to getting back on the water and getting it broken in.

my home depot rant- I was looking at a product but was not sure it would do what I wanted. I asked a kid " heres what i want to do will this do it" He took the can away from me and started reading the the back of the can to me. I stopped him and ask if i looked illiterate? I had to explain the meaning of illiterate to him... he makes 14 an hour...... I dont talk to anyone in home depot when I go there for my own sanity. _________________ Thomas J Elliott
