Hi,
Just finished dry fitting my new anchor platform, real happy with it. The reason I upgraded was threefold, 1. I was tired of the anchor shaft getting binded up in the metal strap on the end of the stock roller. 2. I wanted to be able to use my Delta anchor that I already owned, if needed. 3. I was tired of the anchor shaft banging on the foredeck and using a noodle under it. This is the longer version if this platform. Of course they put it on sale right after I bought it, still well worth it.
Now for my question. I'm tired of using my fore deck cleat to wrap the anchor chain around to secure the anchor while underway. I want this cleat free for other use so I need a way to secure the anchor while running. My first thought was to just splice a line around the forward foot of the cleat with a shakle that runs forward and clips on the chain, maybe run a bungee too in order to keep tension on it. I also thought about getting one of those chain locks and mounting it on the foredeck. I could also just add two more cleats forward near the pulpit foot to use for other things and continue using the foredeck cleat for the anchor. Any other bright ideas or systems that work for you?

We just have a light line, (5/16" works fine) and a clip which goes into the anchor shackle --it could go into the chain--and a turn or two around the bow cleat with it tucked under. It is free for heavier lines or other uses. Have had the chain cam on the foredeck and chain stoppers. They just add to clutter and are in the way down the line. _________________ Bob Austin
