*Resurrecting an old thread*

I can't wait to see a Brat with small twins on a 16! That would be so amazing.

South - thanks for resurrecting, somehow I missed this back when it was active. When repowering my 16 Angler, the idea of twin 20's also crossed my mind, if only for the coolness factor. I previously had a 1956 16' Bell Boy cruiser with twin 25 hp Yamahas, that was super fun (photos in my album). With twins you run larger pitch props, but I carried a spare lower-pitch prop and could run the boat with just a single 25 and still get good speed in the low to mid 20's. The bellboy was a flat bottom boat like a C-dory too. One potential benefit of running twins on a small boat.

It would be a fun package.

Yeah, the coolness factor would be off the charts Mike! The extra cost of twins, rigging and maintenance would be a bitch but hey, it's not cheap to look cool!

I suppose if one were to find some very low hour motors then maybe the bill wouldn't be TOO bad. They are only 20 hp's after all. Lol

Most folks here would probably agree that I am the most outspoken proponent of twin engines for most of our boating applications.

Just in case you missed it, I Love my Twins Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Twin engines allow for considerable redundancy, exceptional maneuverability, and a pretty nice jump in the WOW factor. All that being said, I do believe there are practical limitations (Sunbeam, Joe, Roger, Jay et al, are you sitting down Question Embarassed Shocked

On a boat the size of a 16, the main factor for twins, that I can see would be the WOW factor. On a boat that size, (which is pretty light and maneuverable), for me it would make the most sense to set it up with a good set of oars and some good sturdy oarlocks and carry the oars. Power the boat with a single only, decreasing the aft weight, and use the oars for recreation, gunk holing, and in case of a life and death need if the OB ever quit. The likelihood of it ever quiting, if it is properly maintained is extremely small .... to infinitesimal.

So, unless you are int WOW ......
there is also some issue of double maintenance stuff, parts and $$ for twins that some folks object too.

BTW, I'm OK, really. I had my mental health examined yesterday and they said I'm good for another season of twins promotion Cool Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

For me, Brock"s Bambina is the essence of what a 16 is about, the elegance of simplicity. As noted above, he has traveled all over the PNW in Bambina, equipped with one engine, no kicker, one battery, two 6 gallon tanks, no bow rail, and, until recently, no gps (he did have a whistle). He does have a swim platform but, as that has no moving parts.... I do admire it when I read about all the stuff you're doing to and worrying about your boat . But to me the 16 footer is there simply to enjoy, like that little sail boat people are always remembering so fondly. MY advice, check the weather, put the plug in and go launch it . Take a selfie of your smile and post it here.

Wow, Marty, thanks. I didn't see your 3/4/2016 post about Bambina, and that happened to be her 27th birthday. Now she's in the very capable and appreciative hands of MikeR. We sure love our C-Dory's.
Love
