2020 FRIDAY Harbor CBGT, move to Sept 2020
Email from Chris (group rendezvous coordinator) at Port of Friday Harbor:
Quote: | “Harvey – I will not cancel your reservations for 12 boats 15-17 May until I hear from you after the 4th. As to September, we are able to fit you anywhere through the 15th, after which it is 1st-come 1st served… Let us know how we can help get you here! |
So, heeeerrrree weee aarrrrrreeeeee! Yikes. What a way to be.
The May 2020 FH-CBGT is appearing to be going into the tank, and I believe that is the responsible healthy stand to take. (Just listened to the Governors speech, and he agrees with me 😉. I have asked several knowledgeable C-BRATS to join me in making the “official” decision to be announced May 4. I will go along with their decisions. Right now, the Port of Friday Harbor is wanting a decision from us on a delayed CBGT, meeting in Sept 2020. Arbitrarily I am picking Thursday, 9/10 to Sunday 9/13 as the dates for that gathering, due to time constraints.
My answer to Chris:
Quote: | “Thanks, I'll let you know. I'm curious how you came about to have a reservation for 12 boats? I will be posting on the site tomorrow as to the possibility of being there between Sept 1 and 15. It will probably be the weekend before I could have a very accurate number.
Harvey

For now, I need to know:
1. If you were planning to be at the 2020 FH-CBGT mid May.
2.If you would be at Friday Harbor Sept 10 – 13 for a delayed CBGT there.
3.If you are planning on being at Friday Harbor Marina anytime during the summer between those two dates.
Thank you, and please comment before the evening of April 26, I will need to let Chris know next week so I will compile the numbers the morning of Monday, 4/27.
On a personal note, I will not be able to be available during Sept or Oct. That does not mean the event could not go one, just that you all will have more fun than I will.

Harvey,
Thank you for all you are doing and have done for this event. I know it has been very difficult and time consuming. You're a top-notch person!
1. I WAS planning on attending the scheduled May FH CBGT event and was really looking forward to it prior to the pandemic.
2. Joanie and my plans are to return to our home on Orcas Island as soon as things open up and the governor's stay at home order lifts enough to permit non-primary home residents to return to the San Juan Islands.
3. As per above, we will return as soon as permitted, and hopefully be in the area for the summer through September. |

I love the Friday Harbor gathering because:
1) I love FH
2) I love to catch spot prawns and
3) It's a time I can get to see many C-Brats w/o interrupting my salmon or tuna fishing.
I'm all in support of moving it to Sept. but likely won't attend then as both criteria (2) and (3) are not met. I love all my C-Brat friends, but I love a salmon and tuna fishing more. _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

Harvey:
This is Randy and Chris Shuman from Raven. we had been planning to attend the May FH gathering and would probably attend in September if virus conditions improve.
We will probably be stopping in FH sometime during the summer if restrictions are relaxed/lifted.
Thanks for the work on this difficult issue. |

Thank you all for the responses so far. Roger, I too love FH, especially because I get to see all my C-BRAT friends. I also enjoy it because I like the challenge of getting across the strait. This year there is a new challenge, and we all have to deal with that in the way we feel is best for us considering the science we know, believe and understand. This has been a very strange year. WE can still be together -- apart.
The Canadian border is closed now for another 30 days. Looks like if we are boating, it will be on our own side of the boarders. For the Washingtonians the Puget Sound/San Juans look to be where we will be, so I hope to see many of you there (Steve, If/when you get back we will do it and Randy, great to see you here, and hope to see you on that water.
I hope to hear plenty more so keep the responses coming.
Thank you all,
Harvey

I'll steer clear of commenting on the health concerns of having the gathering, primarily because the practical reasons to cancel it make sense.
Unfortunately, there's not a great chance I can make September. Plans were to sell my Nordic 26 shortly after the FH gathering, so I'll likely be boatless by then.
And, while I'm planning on getting another boat that's more in line with C-Brat gatherings - that's likely another year off.
Don't worry, I've not lost interest - the lights will stay on here. _________________

Greetings to all C-Brats! Hope all are staying safe and healthy!
Thank you, Harvey, for all the footwork you've been doing on our behalf!
Dianne and I:
1. Were not planning on the May gathering.
2. Will POSSIBLY make the Sept. gathering - depending on the
virus situation.
3. Are not going to FH in between those dates, but will
hopefully do a S.J. islands trip later this summer, anchoring
instead of mooring.
Just saw last night that Germany is cancelling Oktoberfest already. Seems that it would be difficult to maintain "social distancing" at F.H. too. _________________ Classea Lady |

Michelle and I are new to C-Brats. We just picked up a 22 Cruiser and are really looking forward to meeting you all. We are based on Whidbey Island (south end). We will be out on the water in Puget sound with one or more of our 3 teens/ 20 yr old and our springer spaniels.
1) We were planning on attending in May It was a bit of a toss up with Elliot Bay and the Avett Brothers concert (now rescheduled to Oct 31)
2) Provided the daughter does not have a ice hockey tournament on the east coast we will be there in Sept
3) we will definitely be in the San Juan's and Friday Harbor this summer |
