For years this has remained a boat forum. We have formed bonds through it. Let's not destroy that feeling. and that's especially important in these times. Except humor, humor always helps, most of the time.

Oh, and by the way, here's how I feel about .....

This has been from it’s inception more than just a “boat forum” with many like El & Bill likening it to a friendly pub, where many view points were exchanged on most all subjects, but centered around boats. Keeping all political opinion out may be good in a general sort of utopian way, but politicians make the laws that us boaters must live with, so as with everything else “just be nice” overall has worked out well. In years past there were many heated discussions & views shared, which I enjoyed & learned good information & others I just ignored. These were easy to avoid if one didn’t care for them.

In the gatherings, I’ve noticed for the most part the “just be nice” has also limited hard feelings to rare events. Group self discipline has been the main stay when people were joined in conversations with those they didn’t know well, so that deeper conversations that could possibly offend were kept to conversations with small inner groups that knew they wouldn’t be offended by the topic.

If all post were kept strictly to boat usage & repair this would not be the C-Brat family/community it is.

Jay

I'll chime in.

Let's see. This web site is called "THE C-BRATS".

Does that mean this site is for
'C-Dory boats',
'C-Dory boat owners',
'any boat owner who goes to "C" ',
'badly behaved boaters' or
'bratwursts eaten at "C"'?

For order, I feel we forum participants deserve clarification
from the site's originator(s). Otherwise, expect more chaos.

Aye.
PS: NB - politics not even hinted at.

We're all operating under a "new normal". Talking about it should be expected and not discouraged. Let's just keep the "Be Nice" mantra in mind.

I, for one, like hearing what other folks are going thru and thinking about our current situation.

Can we talk about our situations without bringing in the politicians that may or may not have gotten us here or the ones that may or may not get us out of this mess.

Many of our lives may be changed forever, we are coming back a month early as Dana is a nurse and is worried about having a job. A trip we had worked towards for 2 years and in our situation we will be unlikely to be able to go to Florida or even back to Mexico next year. In this divisive time political viewpoints don't seem to change and this forum isn't likely to change anyone's so why add stress to already difficult times. If we are positive and supportive here all our lives will have a bright spot in our days.

Just my thoughts, I know I am still new here and others really drive this forum.

And as a practical matter: one is exceedingly unlikely to change another's opposing beliefs with a strident rant on an internet forum.

Wash your hands often, help others where you can, and stay safe!

I like the forum just the way it is. I enjoy disagreement when it occurs (not that often); as long as the "just be nice" philosophy is maintained.

P.S. I always find it interesting that most folks seem to spend more time worrying about the morality of others than they do worrying about their own morality.

Baxter, thank you so much for saying something here. Yesterday, I read a comment on this forum and it was hurtful and biased towards those who disagree with the poster. I decided to turn the other cheek to the comment and let it roll off my back. Gary.

Ahhh yes, a boat forum, and for some (myself included) it is so much more than that. Yup, I love the boat part, and I look at many of those post with interests and yearn for learning.

Oh, There are some posts I don't look at, following Starcraft Tom's advice,
Quote:
"or after seeing the title you could just not look..... just saying"

and there are some poster that I may disagree with, sometimes, but I consider this more than just a "boating forum" and agree with the sentiment of many that this "pub" or "family" is more than just boating acquaintances. I have friends here, Good Friends, that have been like brothers and sisters for me for, now, a lot of years, and I enjoy, even treasure exchanges with them.

The old adage, no politics or religion in polite company, applies for formal dinners, and for those who are not really close friends. On here, (C=BRATS), I consider most of you friends, and some very good friends, and when we are together we have talked about both politics and religion. (For the record, I'm much stronger in religion that politics) but both have a significant affect on our (and my) life in one way or another, and in all of our lives to some extent, so I find it hard to think that a conversation on here may not touch those subjects sometimes, in some ways. I also adamantly agree that the "Just Be Nice" policy should be adhered to as Tosca said:
Quote:
"I like the forum just the way it is. I enjoy disagreement when it occurs (not that often); as long as the "just be nice" philosophy is maintained."

As Jay said, this place has gone through some rather turbulent times and has come out well. We are still friends and the boating forum and it's superfluous edges are still going on, much the same as if we were sitting across the table or down the bar from each other. Thanks Jay for adding:
"This has been from it’s inception more than just a “boat forum” with many like El & Bill likening it to a friendly pub, where many view points were exchanged on most all subjects, but centered around boats. Keeping all political opinion out may be good in a general sort of Utopian way, but politicians make the laws that us boaters must live with, so as with everything else “just be nice” overall has worked out well. In years past there were many heated discussions & views shared, which I enjoyed & learned good information & others I just ignored. These were easy to avoid if one didn’t care for them."

So yesterday, I found one post that surprised me and I disagreed with but decided to pass on responding, and then I found one that I often disagree with and was surprised at how closely it aligned with how I was feeling. See, It is a great place and there is always something to learn.

Oh, and IF there is a place you want to post that only goes to the registered C-BRAT members there is a forum for just that. It is called the "That's Life" forum. And for something you don't want to share with the whole site, there is the option to send a "PM". That way it goes to only the intended recipient, not the whole web site.... That is the purpose of the "PM" (Private Message).

So for now, I say Thank You to the guys who had the for-site to put together a place where we can come to share, learn and grow in a community that all share the love of our boats and our love of the water.

Thank you, Tyboo and DaNerd.

Harvey

Many web sites have a way of blocking individual posters. I am on a large aviation site, they use the old military term Friend or Foe. The people I block are not foes, but just ones who repeatedly post in a manner that I don't want to see. The site does show me that they posted, and it is on a topic that the particular 'foe' says useful things I open it.

I think we should give politicians a break for a while. Sure, the legislative branch makes the laws. And if you break one, the judicial branch can issue a fine or sentence you to jail. But we elect politicians and many of the judges. They are chosen by we the people. I'm going to stop haranguing them.

Who's left to blame? The politicians only make the laws, but then we hire thugs to enforce the laws. It is obviously the enforcement of the dumb laws that is the problem. Blame the executive branch! From now on when somebody gripes about politicians we should show them that the problem is really the cops. It turns out that law enforcement can also be blamed for every governmental problem.

Makes sense, right? Well, it makes as much sense as blaming politicians or judges. And it sure feels better than having to acknowledge that the blame is on we the people. Plus, (this is really the main reason) it is a lot easier to bitch about something than to come up with viable solutions and implement them in a representative democracy.

Try it yourself. "Those dumb ____________." (cops, health inspectors, sheriff's deputies, Coast Guard, etc.). It sure feels good blaming a different branch of government for a change.

Mark
