Hello,
I have a c-dory 19 Angler.
I want to replace the manual wipers with a motorized unit.
Can anyone tell me what wiper motor is suitable for this application and where I can purchase it..I live near Vancouver BC. Driving to the Seattle area is also possible.
Thanks. |

The AFI wiper kits are what most of the C Dorys use. There are two sizes, I would go for the 500, but look at photos of the 19's and 22's to see how they are installed. The 25's have the 1000's with pantographic wipers. _________________ Bob Austin

AFI is the brand, yes. And I have seen them installed with the motor at the top of the windshield and at the bottom. I had to replace one of mine last year, and believe me, It is not an easy job, and mine are installed at the bottom. It would have been 10 times harder if they had been at the top. If they are at the top you would have to be working up under the brow, with a sawzall. Yikes, not fun. Bad enough doing it down on the top of the doghouse foredeck.

Here's a link to changing out the windshield wiper on a C-Dory 25. It discusses a cheaper wiper which is better made, in my opinion. Also some thoughts on pantogram arms vs single arms. I changed to single and have never regretted that.
I bought a Schmitt Ongaro Waterproof Wiper Motor, P/N 33611. It has 2 speeds, twice the torque and a stainless output shaft all for $90.

Boris, Thanks for a great write-up on a PIA project. My 22 was much easier because the motor was at the bottom of the window, BUT it still took a Sawzall it do the trick.
Thanks for putting that link in. Wish I had seen you thread before I replaced my wiper motor.
