Hello, does anyone use their inflatable for a cockpit cover? Maybe some pictures and mounting suggestions? Thanks |

What do you do when the inflatable is in the water (i.e. used for its intended purpose)? |

Yes, I do, on SleepyC and have been doing that for 12 years. I love the way it works, shade, and rain cover, but for that function it would be nice if the inflatable was a bit wider. I do have a light rain fly that can go over the inflatable and comes down to the gunnels for serious rain situations.
I have a custom stainless pipe rack, sits in the slopping between the splashwell and the storage covers. Built very heavy duty, and the rack serves multiple functions.
If that worked, you got the photo, if not, it should work for a link to take you to my album. Sorry, (on edit), it didn't bring the photo here. So, 3rd row down, 2nd from left. Click on the SleepyC in blue at the left.

Thanks Harvey. I kind of remember seeing this setup when my son and I chatted with you in Tribune Bay a few years ago. Cheers |

Wow, you have a good memory. I remember chatting with a couple of C-Dorys there, while I was scrubbing the bottom, if I remember right.
If you decide to do it, I would use heavy wall, 1 or 1.25 inch diameter, 316 marine stainless. Yup, expensive, but lighter than mine, and easier to keep shiney --if that is an issue for you. Mine is stainless pipe, and it was built to serve multiple purposes. It has an extendable lifting arm, welded on cleats, and loops, and can be easily removed (except for the bases which are severly bolted on).

Look through the photo album of El and Bill Fiero, I believe they did that. Boat name Halcyon.

Have tarpaulin under inflatable
If I'd known I'd buy this boat
would have kept my 9 foot Achilles and had it refurbished
But thinking back now...
That boat would have been thirty years old in 2020 _________________ Weeki Wachee

I do carry, and have used a few times, a lightweight tent rain fly that can go over the inflatable and down the sides nearly to the gunnels on both sides for when it is really rainy and windy. Makes the boat much more of a wind-vein at anchor, but does keep the cockpit dryer.

Saw that in your original post Harvey
but only after I too posted
Ordered a Sunbrella 6x6 to connect to my roof rack and cover the stern
and 4x4 to shade hatch up front when moored
Boat's been in the water these last two plus weeks
Really just now getting it rigged for camping |
