Garmin is not allowing renewals on iPad for Garmin Blue Charts. Big problem for me as main source of navigation. Very dated chart plotter. They first separated Active Captain now charts not available. I understand they want me to buy new chart plotter. I am nearing end of boating career so I do not want more vestment in stuff.

Any other recommendations on iPad Nav. Soft wear? Navtronics is also leaving.

Thanks, Baxter

I had both the original Garmin blue chart & Navionics apps on my IPad & yes both went out of service. At least with Navionics it would continue to work but without updates. I was still concerned it might quit in the middle of one of our remote extended cruises, so for 20 some dollars a year did the subscription app with Navionics. It was a smooth transition & is working well. It’s very irritating & not right that they sold these apps originally, then purposely made them quit working, so yearly subscriptions could be sold, but for me, best remaining option was to finally just do the subscription.

Aqua Map app. Inexpensive and I use it on an iPad. Works great.

You might look at "Aqua Maps Marine" as an option. I have that and "OsmAnd+" on my Samsung tablet and often use them for looking at the "larger picture". The OsmAnd+ does not use data to run, and has unlimited downloads by state. It was about 10 bucks. It is not a chart system, but land based. The Aqua Maps Marine is not Navionics, but it is usefull.

I prefer MxMariner. It is an Android app. You can download NOAA charts and the Active Captain database for offline use.

We have used the subscription Navionics on both our iPad and android tablets for years, love it. I bought our current chartplotter because it is Navionics card compatible I have had garmin Blue Carts on a couple of chartplotters and never liked them in the areas we navigate, I'm really worried that Garmin's corporate way of doing things will screw up Navionics.

I have been using Aquamaps with Active captain. I still have the older Navionics, without updates on my I pad, but that will probably go soon (haven't checked on that today.). This was one of the things I warned Jeff Siegel about when I found he was selling out to Garmin. He felt it would not happen...Best way is to boycott Garmin, and let them know why.

There are some cheap chart plotters, and the maps on the older Garmin should still be there, and generally usable. You can still download the free NOAA charts and use those with several apps.

As of now RayMarine (which I have) allows updates of the Navionics charts (for a fee)

I like Aqua Map and Navionics apps on iPad Air cellular but with no cell service but has built in GPS chip in an old of production Gumdrop case with marine MFD mount bracket.

Lots of deals on new MFD units. More new units to be released at Miami Boat Show. Check vendor web sites , Hull Truth and Panbo. Excellent reading material. Check YouTube for overview and detailed videos.

In May, 2019 , I bought a Garmin Echomap Plus WiFi 94sv and 9 in screen and G2 Blue Chart but not Vision for 600 at West Marine.
G3 Vision is the latest generation. Vision chips have auto guidance or routing planning

Time to update!
